Position Overview

The Retail Attendant is responsible for delivering an exceptional shopping experience to guests and visitors of The Monarch by providing personalized service, maintaining attractive merchandise displays, and supporting the daily operations of the hotel’s gift shop. This role assists guests with selecting merchandise, processes sales transactions, maintains inventory, and ensures the retail environment consistently reflects the hotel’s luxury standards.

The Retail Attendant serves as an ambassador of The Monarch, creating memorable guest interactions through product knowledge, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality. What You’ll Do Greet and assist guests in a warm, professional manner, providing personalized service and merchandise recommendations. Maintain knowledge of retail merchandise, pricing, promotions, and available products to assist guests and support sales.

Process sales transactions, room charges, returns, and exchanges accurately using the point-of-sale system and established cash handling procedures. Maintain attractive, organized, and well-stocked merchandise displays consistent with the hotel’s luxury presentation standards. Receive, unpack, price, and restock merchandise while assisting with inventory counts and monitoring stock levels.

Complete daily opening and closing procedures, including register reconciliation and securing merchandise. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the gift shop, display areas, and storage spaces. Respond professionally to guest inquiries and concerns, coordinating with other hotel departments as needed. Follow established safety, security, and loss prevention procedures and report concerns to management.

Support special promotions, seasonal displays, and hotel events as needed. Perform other duties as assigned to support hotel operations. Maintain reliable and consistent attendance as an essential function of the role. What You’ll Bring Required Skills and Abilities Excellent guest service and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to provide attentive, personalized service in a luxury hospitality environment. Strong sales skills with the ability to make appropriate product recommendations. Ability to learn and retain detailed product knowledge. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to accurately process transactions and handle cash and other payment methods.

Basic mathematical skills and ability to reconcile sales transactions. Ability to operate POS systems and learn retail inventory software. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining a professional and welcoming demeanor. Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to handle guest concerns professionally and exercise sound judgment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity when handling guest information and financial transactions. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform routine merchandise handling tasks, including occasional lifting or carrying up to 30 lbs.

Ability to work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Professional appearance and adherence to grooming standards. Strong commitment to service excellence, merchandise presentation, and guest satisfaction.

Education

& Experience Previous experience in retail, customer service, hospitality, or a related field preferred. Experience in luxury retail, boutique shopping, upscale hospitality, or hotel gift shop operations preferred. Previous experience operating point-of-sale systems and handling cash transactions preferred. Experience with merchandise displays, inventory management, and retail sales preferred.

Familiarity with luxury merchandise, specialty gifts, apparel, and accessories preferred. Other Qualifications
