Job description
A Metal Caster is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment used in the metal casting process. This role involves working with various metals, such as steel and other alloys, to create molds, cast metal parts, and ensure the quality of the final products. The ideal candidate should be familiar with the metal casting process, have experience with heavy machinery, and follow safety standards to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
Set up and operate metal casting machines to mold metal parts according to production specifications. Assemble and prepare molds and cores using sand, resin, steel or brass required for casting. Safely pour molten metal into prepared molds, ensuring accurate filling to produce high-quality castings. Maintain and control the temperature of the furnaces, ensuring the correct temperature for melting and pouring metals.
Examine cast products for defects such as cracks, misalignment, or incomplete castings, and ensure quality standards are met. Remove castings from molds, trim excess material, and perform any required grinding, polishing, or cleaning of the cast parts. Perform routine maintenance on casting machinery, including cleaning, lubricating, and minor repairs.
Record production data, machine settings, and any deviations from quality standards. Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring a safe work environment. Work closely with other production team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Familiarity with operating metal casting equipment, furnaces, and molds. Understanding of the properties of various metals (e.g., steel, aluminum) and their casting requirements. Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in high-temperature environments.
Keen eye for detecting casting defects and ensuring products meet quality standards. Ability to troubleshoot casting issues and adjust machine settings as necessary. Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative environment. Familiarity with safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe workspace.
Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with high heat, noise, and heavy machinery. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots must be worn at all times.
