Position Overview

Three Notch Group is seeking a Geotechnical Project Manager to lead the delivery of geotechnical and construction-phase projects from initial pursuit through completion. Working under general supervision, this role is responsible for delivering high-quality projects on schedule and within budget while maintaining strong client relationships, sound technical recommendations, and effective project execution.

The ideal candidate combines geotechnical design expertise, construction materials testing and special-inspection experience, project management capability, and a demonstrated ability to win work and maintain client relationships. This role will also mentor engineers and technicians, helping build a technically strong and accountable team that supports both project delivery and business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities Lead geotechnical projects from scope development and contract negotiation through technical execution, construction-phase services, and project closeout. Analyze and design geotechnical systems, including shallow and deep foundations, earth-retention systems, slope-stability solutions, ground-improvement systems, and stabilization measures.

Prepare and review clear, technically sound, and defensible geotechnical reports, calculations, recommendations, specifications, and related project documents. Plan and coordinate subsurface explorations, laboratory testing programs, engineering analyses, and construction-phase services. Provide technical leadership for construction materials testing and International Building Code special inspections during earthwork and vertical construction.

Support field teams with construction observation, materials testing, troubleshooting, and resolution of geotechnical or construction-related issues. Develop project scopes, fees, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and technical approaches. Monitor project performance and manage work to meet quality, schedule, direct-labor, expense, and profitability expectations.

Maintain proactive communication with clients, contractors, project teams, and other stakeholders throughout project delivery. Identify project opportunities, support proposal development, participate in contract negotiations, and contribute to winning new work. Build and maintain strong client relationships that support repeat business and long-term growth.

Use standard business and geotechnical applications, including Microsoft Office, Ensoft software, Geo. Studio, gINT, and related technical tools. Mentor and develop engineers and technicians with an emphasis on technical growth, accountability, professional development, and high-performing teams. Follow company quality, safety, and project-management procedures and perform other duties as assigned.

What Success Looks Like Success in this role means delivering technically sound geotechnical projects on time and within budget while providing responsive service and maintaining trusted client relationships. The Geotechnical Project Manager will develop clear project scopes, coordinate teams and resources, produce defensible recommendations, address construction-phase challenges, and maintain strong quality and financial performance.

The successful candidate will contribute to business growth by identifying and winning opportunities, negotiating contracts, and developing lasting client partnerships. They will also strengthen the practice by mentoring younger engineers and technicians, promoting accountability, and building team capability across geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, and special-inspection services.
