Westbrook High School JV Basketball Position: JV Coach Girls Basketball Location: Westbrook High School Reports to: Director of Athletics & Activities League Affiliation: Southern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) Start Date: Winter 2026 Season Status: Stipend Position $4720 Position Overview Westbrook High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Junior Varsity Basketball Coach.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in the development of student-athletes by supporting the continued growth of the basketball program and preparing players for success at the varsity level. The ideal candidate will provide positive leadership on and off the court, fostering a team culture that emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship, accountability, and teamwork.

The JV Basketball Coach will work collaboratively with the varsity coaching staff to ensure a consistent philosophy and developmental approach throughout the program.

Responsibilities

Lead, organize, and supervise all aspects of the Junior Varsity Basketball team. Develop and implement structured practice plans focused on fundamental skill development, basketball IQ, teamwork, and game preparation. Create a positive, inclusive, and competitive team environment grounded in Westbrook's core values of effort, integrity, and pride.

Support the overall vision and philosophy of the basketball program while preparing student-athletes for advancement to the varsity level. Promote academic achievement, sportsmanship, and citizenship among student-athletes. Collaborate with the Varsity Basketball Coach and Athletic Director to ensure alignment across all levels of the program.

Manage team communication, equipment, travel logistics, and game-day responsibilities. Assist with player evaluation and provide constructive feedback to support individual growth and development. Adhere to all Westbrook School Department, Maine Principals' Association (MPA), and SMAA policies and procedures. Model professionalism, leadership, and respect on and off the court.

Qualifications

Required Demonstrated knowledge of basketball coaching techniques, player development, and safety procedures. Previous coaching or playing experience in basketball. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, and school personnel.

Commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and sportsmanship. Must meet MPA and Westbrook School Department coaching certification requirements (including CHRC). Preferred Previous experience coaching basketball at the middle school, high school, AAU, collegiate, or club level. Experience working with adolescent student-athletes and supporting their athletic and personal development.

Familiarity with player development strategies and offseason training concepts. Experience collaborating within a multi-level athletic program.

Compensation

Stipend per Westbrook Education Association (WEA) contract $4720.
