Job Title: Wastewater Manager APEL Extrusions Location: Phoenix, AZ U.S. Position: Does not qualify for work visa/sponsorship The Company: APEL Extrusions APEL Extrusions is an independent extruder, finisher and fabricator of aluminum extrusions serving the commercial, residential, and industrial markets of Western Canada and the Western United States.

With facilities in Calgary Canada, Coburg Oregon and Phoenix Arizona, APEL Extrusions is a fully integrated extruder with six extrusion presses, (2 in Calgary and 3 in Oregon and 1 in Phoenix) and a full array of finishing capabilities occupying over 600,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space employing over 300 people.

Search: APEL Extrusions has an immediate requirement for a qualified Wastewater Managerr in its Phoenix, AZ facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Wastewater Manager’s main functions are to provide chemical engineering and project management support for the locations paint, anodizing, and waste treatment lines.

The incumbent will be involved in developing and implementing initiatives to improve company performance in the areas of operational capability, cost management, safety, productivity, and quality. The Wastewater Manager executes the daily functions of APEL’s environmental compliance plan, and is responsible for environmental compliance in all Environmental, Health and Safety activities.

Reports to Plant Manager. General duties are to: Work with Plant Management, Supplier Partners, and the Corporate Technology Team to establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity are monitored, corrected, and improved as required. Assist in preventive maintenance functions in establishing priorities and initiatives to ensure equipment availability and reliability.

Keep contacts and develop partnerships with leading suppliers in the industry to stay current with industry best practices. Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests in making qualitative and quantitative analysis of processes. Set up and conduct chemical experiments, tests, and analyze, using various chemical analysis techniques.

Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards. Design, develop, and optimize processes for chemical manufacturing, applying principles of chemistry, physics, mathematics, and engineering to develop systems and processes. Responsible for ensuring that processes and equipment are safe and comply with environmental regulations.

Design, implement, and improve chemical processes, including those related to anodizing, painting, and other surface finishing techniques. Manage environmental air and water permits and maintains all data, process details, and compliance information for plant anodizing and painting processes. Perform site compliance sampling and submissions to labs for analysis.

Communicate with all departments to ensure environmental compliance and conduct regulatory compliance audits. Direct the waste management program and monitor waste streams and waste products to minimize and/or eliminate waste generation. Monitor wastewater treatment systems for compliance. Participate in environmental incident investigations.

Compensation

Preferred experience with waste treatment, painting and anodizing of aluminum extrusions. Engineering experience in a manufacturing / plant environment preferred.
