Position Summary

Under the direction of the Water Services Director/Assistant Director of Environmental Compliance, the Analytical Chemist is responsible in performing chemical analyses for drinking water/wastewater samples utilizing instrumentation such as ion chromatography, TOC, Ammonia, DO meter analyzers amongst others. An employee in this class is responsible for analyzing water samples in accordance with approved methods from EPA and Standard Methods necessary to retain the drinking water and wastewater laboratory’s certification.

The employee is responsible for reviewing test results to determine if the procedure is performed properly or if problems exist in the drinking water/wastewater treatment processes. The employee is familiar with various testing techniques, equipment and materials utilized in water analyses. Considerable independent judgment and initiative are required in setting up and analyzing laboratory samples.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor and is evaluated through quality control results.
