Safety and Security Specialist

General Definition of Work Performs intermediate technical work monitoring safety and security programs to ensure a safe and secure environment, conducting safety and security risk assessments, assisting with customer complaint investigations and auditing records to ensure compliance and providing recommendations, conducting observations and data analyzes, recognizing safety and security deficiencies and recommending improvements, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Quality Assurance Manager.

Essential Functions

Conducts audits and analyzes records to ensure agency compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, as well as administrative aspects of bus operations and maintenance contract; and provides recommendations. Thoroughly investigates safety and security incidents and prepares accurate reports. Works with other departments, law enforcement, and community members to ensure effective safety and security practices.

Ensures security systems, equipment, and technology are functioning correctly and are up-to-date. Regularly assesses safety and security measures and identifies areas for improvement. Creates and updates safety and safety policies and procedures, conducts risk assessments, and implements safety and security measures. Monitors security systems, responds to alarms, and investigates security breaches or incidents.

Educates staff, contractors, and community on safety and security protocols and procedures. Ensures compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. Supports the Planning and Facility departments; identifies safety, security, and service deficiencies and recommends improvements. Conducts service area, fleet and facility safety, security, and compliance inspections.

Maintains staff cars, ensuring that preventive maintenance is performed per manufacturers’ specifications and properly recorded, including tags and titles with Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Provides feedback regarding shelter/stop cleanliness and condition reports. Trains new employees as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates/Technical degree in security management, criminal justice, emergency management, or related field and moderate experience in safety and security, or law enforcement or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Qualifications Obtain OSHA 10 Certification within one year of hire. Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for position.

Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Job Specifications General knowledge of transportation; general knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices and procedures; knowledge of risk assessment, emergency response procedures, and security systems. Ability to investigate incidents, identify potential risks, and develop solutions Skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; skill in data entry and record keeping, skill in customer service/professional communications.

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with a diverse range of individuals; ability to evaluate performance based upon observation; ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public; ability to work outside in all weather conditions; ability to work collaboratively with other departments; ability to handle confidential information according to established procedure; ability to manage multiple tasks; ability to analyze issues and to utilize problem solving/analysis to resolve and/or escalate these issues in a timely manner; ability to read maps and knowledge of local street geography; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, customers, department directors and managers, and the general public.

g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
