Software Engineer

Role purpose Engineer, test, deploy and maintain dependable software components and applications supporting business and operational needs, working closely with the wider development team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test and maintain applications, services and software components.
• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in peer reviews.
• Build and support APIs, integrations and database queries.
• Investigate defects, troubleshoot issues and improve reliability.
• Support unit/integration testing, deployments and documentation.
• Work with analysts and stakeholders to clarify requirements.
• Participate in Agile planning and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Proposed candidate requirements

• Relevant IT/Computer Science/Software Engineering qualification or equivalent experience.
• Indicatively 3–5 years of development experience, subject to role grading.
• Proficiency in the confirmed programming languages/frameworks (not yet specified).
• Working knowledge of SQL, APIs, Git and software testing.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery and the software development lifecycle.
• Analytical ability, collaboration and clear communication.
• Required: practical software engineering experience in tolling, ETC, ITS, road traffic technology or closely related transport infrastructure systems.
