JOB DESCRIPTION PROPERTIES : Shore Hotel/ Ocean View Hotel/Santa Monica Hotel TITLE: Director of Human Resources (“DHR”) DEPARTMENT: Human Resources (“HR”) STATUS: Exempt, Full-Time, Regular SUPERVISED BY: General Manager (“GM”) and Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) SUPERVISES: This position will supervise a Human Resources Generalist, Human Resources Manager, and other administrative staff of varying levels of experience.

The multi-property Human Resources Director (“HRD”) is responsible for working collaboratively with internal departments and implementing strategic solutions for recruitment, career development, benefits administration, organizational training agendas, along with legally compliant employee relations practices. This position will partner with the General Managers, Legal Department, and Department Leaders at three property locations to address comprehensive operational human resources needs and apply best practices.

This position will work in close collaboration with other HR Team members, General Managers, Legal and Ownership to accomplish organizational objectives and support positive work culture amongst team members. In close partnership with Operations, the HRD will work in alignment with the properties’ strategic objectives and mission statement to ensure properties are hiring the best talent, reducing legal liability and risk, providing a consistent and fair interpretation of policies and procedures to help guide leadership, enable associates to succeed and provide excellent customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provides strategic direction and manages HR staff in accordance with organizational objectives. Prioritizes safety of properties’ operations, employees and guests as required by applicable law and internal policies by working closely with the General Managers and Departmental Leaders. Collaboratively and competently manages all recruitment, career development, employee relations, and benefits administration programs in a legally compliant manner.

Leads by fairly applying and interpreting human resources policies for employees and managers per relevant Employee Handbooks, polices, and departmental best practices. Manages HR staff responsible for administering annual employee performance reviews and review process to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient completion and transfer of information to various departments.

Proactively manages the Employee Engagement Surveys and Employee Development Programs to gauge temperament of staff/morale by engaging in follow-up and recommending solutions. Will oversee the recruitment, on-boarding and new hire training through and extend team member development opportunities by working with department leaders and applying training programs.

Strategically manages organizational training activities, including meeting with Departmental Leaders to determine current and anticipated training needs for the development and retention of staff. Also maintains organizational data related to trainings. Work closely with the General Managers to guide operations, promote a positive and dynamic work environment that encourages department training and education.

Maintains the strict confidentiality of all employee relations, confidential and propriety information. Able to strategically prioritize urgent HR matters based on operational needs. Manages the Human Resources Department record retention practice, the accurate and efficient retention of HR record-keeping best practices in accordance with applicable laws.

Oversees and manages the administration of employee benefit plans, including benefit enrollment processes, proactively market existing plans/wellness initiatives, benefit terminations, and reconciliation of benefit invoicing in compliance with applicable laws and best practices. Manages Departmental budget in alignment with annual budget.

Competently manages all HR record keeping through third party vendors, working knowledge of ADP Workforce. Now, Ceridian Dayforce HCM, E-Verify, I9 Audit, and all other human resources data filing systems. Ensures HR departmental compliance with all Local, State & Federal laws. Manages terminations process and work closely with legal on separation matters.

Oversees and manages employee relations investigations in unbiased manner, provides strategic employee coaching & counseling, performance development plans and discipline guidance. Manages all Workers Comp claims with insurance adjusters and with designated occupational clinic, works closely with department managers to reduce risk and liability.

Oversees all employment leave policies and processes with the support of legal department, ensures compliance based on relevant laws, including not limited to FMLA/CFRA/ADA, leave programs designated in Employee Handbook and local/state/federal laws. Updates Management and General Managers on operational needs and advises on and seeks to prevent deviations from best practices, policies and procedures.

Will conduct periodic wage compensation analysis, with oversight by Ownership, Legal and GM of positions to ensure wages are competitive and legally compliant. EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years of progressive HR experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years worked in a Human Resources role, or as a Human Resources Consultant.

Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience working with ADP Workforcenow, strongly preferred.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in business management and/or Certificate of Human Resources Management at an Extended University Program. Active PHR, PHR-CA, SPHR, or SHRM certification preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS: Must be able to regularly walk, stand, sit and travel to multiple property locations daily/weekly/monthly to attend company meetings/meet with staff, attend conferences based on business need.

Position requires property walks which may include climbing stairs, crouching and stooping. Must be able to communicate with employees and others verbally and in writing. Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Must have the manual dexterity and ability to type and key in numbers. Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.

Able to lift and move and lift a minimum of 10 pounds. Regular and on-time attendance required. Hours frequently exceed 40 hours per week. Ability to respond when necessary and assist with 24 hours/ 7 days a week multi-property operation. OTHER SKILLS: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Other duties as assigned.
