Cost Estimator I
Job description
Our Company
PTI Technologies Inc. is a world leader in highly-reliable filtration and fluid control equipment and subsystems and miniature CAD/PAD devices, providing innovative, value-added solutions for a full range of mission, flight and life-critical operations across the Aerospace and Defense markets.
What You’ll Do
As a Cost Estimator I, you prepare cost estimates in response to Government and commercial RFQs for new and repeat business. Your work supports responsive, compliant, and audit-ready proposals.
Key responsibilities
- Review RFQ requirements, released engineering drawings, proposal sketches, and estimating data forms
- Use BOMs, delivery schedules, PO history, vendor quotes, routers, and cost reports to build estimates
- Create preliminary BOMs and internal quote requests; initiate manufacturing engineering requests for BOM structure and routing reviews
- Estimate materials, purchased parts/processes, tooling, and machine/assembly/test hours using current methods and cost data
- Coordinate with Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Purchasing for clarifications and make/buy inputs
- Maintain complete supporting documentation; present estimates for management review; prepare audit packages and support fact-finding
Required qualifications/skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance (or equivalent combination of education/experience)
- Manufacturing environment experience preferred
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, linking, macros) and working knowledge of ERP/MRP and financial applications
- Detail-focused, organized, and able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally
Apply if you can produce accurate, well-supported estimates and documentation.
A Typical Day
You’ll work onsite in Oxnard on a Monday-Thursday schedule. The day starts by prioritizing active RFQs and confirming what inputs are complete versus what still needs follow-up. You’ll spend focused time in Excel organizing cost elements, checking assumptions, and keeping your backup files clean and traceable.
You’ll have short touchpoints with cross-functional partners to close gaps-getting a quick clarification on a drawing note, confirming supplier quote details, or aligning on a routing change-then return to refining the estimate and assembling the supporting package. Before the day ends, you’ll sanity-check totals, document the basis of estimate, and get materials ready for review or fact-finding as needed.
