Job description

Company Overview Our client is a Premier Multinational Engineering Specialist & Pioneer in Ultra-High Purity (UHP) Process Systems, Advanced Gas Delivery Infrastructures & Semiconductor Fabrication Solutions. Delivering mission-critical fluid/gas distribution systems, cleanroom piping, and high-precision stainless steel fabrications for world-class high-tech manufacturing clients, the company is seeking a highly qualified Senior Welding Specialist / Welding Quality Engineer to lead welding procedure qualification, quality inspection, and technical compliance at their Gelang Patah facility.

Position Overview

The Senior Welding Specialist / Welding Quality Engineer serves as the technical authority for all welding execution, procedure documentation, and quality validation across stainless steel and UHP fabrication projects. This role is responsible for formulating and maintaining Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT), while ensuring absolute adherence to international standards such as AWS, ASME, ISO, and SEMI.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Welding Procedure Development & Technical Governance Develop, review, and maintain comprehensive WPS, PQR, and WQT documentation in alignment with project and client specifications. Select optimal welding processes, shielding/purging gas configurations, filler materials, and parameter envelopes for high-purity stainless steel fabrications. Supervise workshop and field welding operations, enforcing strict adherence to approved engineering drawings, welding maps, and procedure controls.
  2. Welder Qualification & Quality Oversight Plan, conduct, and witness Welder Qualification Tests (WQT), maintaining up-to-date welder performance logs and qualification registries. Perform visual weld inspections, review non-destructive testing (NDT) results (e.g., radiographical, borescope, penetrant testing), and issue formal inspection reports. Investigate weld defects, conduct root-cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plans to eliminate recurring quality issues.
  3. Process Optimization & Standards Compliance Optimize manual and automatic orbital TIG/GTAW welding processes to enhance weld integrity, penetration, and productivity. Ensure strict compliance with AWS, ASME (Section IX / B31.3), ISO, and SEMI welding standards across all production lines. Professional Certification: Must hold a valid AWS-CWI (American Welding Society – Certified Welding Inspector) certification. Additional certifications such as CSWIP 3.1/3.2, IWE (International Welding Engineer), or equivalent are highly preferred.

Work Experience: Minimum 3+ years of hands-on welding engineering, welding inspection, or high-precision fabrication experience. Technical Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in Orbital GTAW/TIG welding and high-purity stainless steel (e.g., 316L EP/BA) tube/pipe fabrication. Strong working knowledge of WPS, PQR, WQT, weld mapping, and quality documentation structures.

Deep familiarity with ASME, AWS, ISO, and SEMI codes and standards. Ability to read complex isometric drawings, P&IDs, welding symbols, and structural/piping specifications.
