Equipment Operator

  • Ready Mix Department: Concrete Reports To: Area Production Manager/Operations Manager Location: As Assigned FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)
  • This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, meaning the incumbent is eligible to receive overtime compensation for all hours worked in excess of 40 per week. Schedule: Full-time; 40 hours per week; schedule as assigned Supervisory Responsibility: This position carries no supervisory responsibility.

  • Pending Compensation Grade Structure Position Summary The Equipment Operator
  • Ready Mix is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of yard equipment and concrete plant machinery in support of raw material receiving, storage, and production loading activities. The incumbent performs routine preventive maintenance on plant equipment, monitors material inventory levels, and ensures the yard and plant site are maintained in a clean, organized, and environmentally compliant condition at all times. This position works in close coordination with the Concrete Plant Manager and Dispatch to support uninterrupted production operations. The role contributes directly to product quality, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance at the plant level.

Essential Duties

& Responsibilities The following duties are considered essential functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned. Inspects the concrete plant and all associated equipment on a regular basis, verifying proper operation and addressing greasing, fluid levels, and cleanliness to ensure continuous and reliable production readiness.

Monitors aggregate and admixture inventory levels throughout each shift, keeps hoppers filled to required levels, and notifies the Concrete Plant Manager promptly of any impending material shortages. Operates front-end loaders, heavy mobile equipment, and other yard vehicles in a safe and proficient manner, adhering to all company safety standards and site-specific operating procedures.

Completes all required pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and accurately documents findings on daily inspection reports in accordance with company policy. Collects material samples and performs quality control tests as required, completes all associated documentation, and reports quality concerns or nonconformances to Technical Services for resolution.

Maintains the plant and yard site in a clean and orderly condition at all times, including washing exterior plant surfaces and equipment, maintaining plant grounding, removing debris, and ensuring all equipment is stored in its designated location. Complies with all applicable environmental regulations, monitors the site for excess material accumulation or discharge risks, and takes immediate corrective action to prevent or address environmental hazards.

Assists the Concrete Plant Manager with batching operations and related production support duties as directed, and supports Dispatch with truck and driver communications to facilitate efficient plant operations. Learns and utilizes the company dispatch system, iPad applications, and other company software platforms to accurately record operational data and communicate effectively within the production workflow.

Performs general outside labor and miscellaneous site tasks as assigned, including sweeping, shoveling, moving materials and equipment, and retrieving supplies to support overall plant operations. Required Qualifications Verbal communication skills sufficient to interact clearly and professionally with plant management, dispatch, and drivers.

Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and operate the company dispatch system, iPad, and company-approved software applications. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, and moving mechanical parts. Ability to complete pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspection reports accurately and consistently.

Willingness and ability to follow all applicable environmental regulations and company safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience operating a front-end loader or other heavy mobile equipment in a construction materials, mining, or industrial environment. State Certified Concrete Technician certification or demonstrated progress toward certification.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.
