Aquatics Swim Instructor

• Westport, CT, Position Type: Part Time, Salary Range: Undisclosed, Areas of Responsibility: Ensures the safety of every individual at the YMCA, both in and around the pool as well as the rest of the facility. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Supervise all children and adults entrusted to the care of the instructor. Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly. Maintain records as required (attendance, progress reports, etc.). Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and with the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identify potential volunteers. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refer students and parents to other programs. Organize and put away needed class equipment. Report damaged equipment Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Report 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift in proper uniform (trunks/suit, YMCA provided Swim Instructor shirt). Notify supervisor of before securing a substitute if you cannot fulfill your shift and provide lesson plan for substitute. 1. Certifications: CPR/AED, First Aid. YMCA or Red Cross Swim Instructor or Lifeguard certification preferred. Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards. Must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA. Complete Child Abuse Prevention training annually; Required to report any suspected cases of child abuse immediately to supervisor.
