Nurse Practitioner - Marshall Internal Medicine Inpatient Rehabilitation
Job description
Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive medical evaluation, management, and inpatient coverage for patients at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital. The NP collaborates with attending physicians and the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to manage acute and chronic medical conditions, promote patient safety, support functional recovery, and ensure continuity of care throughout the rehabilitation stay.
Essential Responsibilities Performs patient histories, physical examinations, admission evaluations, and follow-up assessments. Develops, implements, and updates individualized medical treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians and the interdisciplinary team. Evaluates and manages acute and chronic medical conditions common to the inpatient rehabilitation population.
Orders and interprets laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic studies. Prescribes and manages medications and treatments within the scope of licensure and hospital policy. Monitors patient progress, identifies changes in condition, and initiates appropriate interventions or escalation of care. Responds to medical emergencies and coordinates transfer to a higher level of care when clinically indicated.
Provides routine inpatient coverage between physician visits and supports continuity of care. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds, care conferences, discharge planning, and coordination of post-acute services. Educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, rehabilitation precautions, and discharge instructions.
Maintains accurate and timely medical records and documentation. Collaborates with nursing, therapy services, pharmacy, case management, and other healthcare professionals. Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, required meetings, and professional development activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Master’s degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice preferred or required according to organizational policy. Experience: Prefer one year of medical/surgical nursing, inpatient medicine, rehabilitation, or related clinical experience.
Experience with medically complex, geriatric, or post-acute patients preferred. License/Certification: Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of practice. Current national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Current BLS/CPR certification required. ACLS certification preferred or required based on hospital policy.
Prescriptive authority and applicable registrations as required. Eligibility for hospital credentialing and medical staff privileges. Additional Information This position requires the ability to work collaboratively in an inpatient rehabilitation environment and may include weekends, holidays, or other scheduled coverage based on hospital needs.
