Patients at OAM will have access to our Specialized Surgeons, Physical and Occupational Therapists, MRI and X-ray services, and orthopaedic bracing.

Patients are also able to receive care from our Bone Health Clinic, OAM Now Urgent Orthopaedic Care Clinic, and Surgery Center at Mid. Towne – all of which are committed to optimizing their treatment outcomes. Our teams work together to maximize and adjust treatment quickly and easily, resulting in a smoother, faster recovery for patients.

Position Summary

The Clinical Intern is a temporary learning position designed for students pursuing a health-related degree who are interested in gaining hands-on exposure to orthopedic and musculoskeletal healthcare. The Clinical Intern works alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals to observe, support, and learn clinical operations while contributing to exceptional patient experiences.

This role provides meaningful exposure to patient care, healthcare administration, and interdisciplinary collaboration in a fast-paced orthopedic environment. The position is intended to support the development of future healthcare professionals while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Supervision This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Essential Responsibilities Clinical Duties: Assist clinical staff with room preparation, stocking supplies, and maintaining organized patient care areas. Escort patients to exam rooms and assist with patient flow under supervision. Observe patient evaluations, treatments, and procedures as permitted.

Assist with obtaining non-clinical patient information and preparing documentation materials. Support providers and staff with patient education materials and follow-up resources. Maintain cleanliness and readiness of patient care areas between visits. Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.

Participate in educational opportunities, case discussions, and departmental learning experiences. Administrative Duties: Assist with scanning, filing, and organizing patient documentation. Support scheduling, referral coordination, and other administrative workflows as assigned. Maintain accurate records of internship activities and learning objectives.

Attend required meetings, training sessions, and orientation activities. Demonstrate professionalism and excellent customer service with patients, visitors, and team members. Perform other duties as assigned. Required & Preferred Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience: Required: High School diploma or GED.

Current enrollment in a college or university program leading to a health-related degree (e.g., Pre-Medicine, Nursing, Physician Assistant Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Exercise Science, Athletic Training, or similar healthcare field). Candidate must be actively pursuing or planning to enter a health-related academic or professional degree program.

Ability to successfully complete all onboarding, confidentiality, and safety requirements. Preferred: Previous volunteer, shadowing, internship, or healthcare experience. Interest in orthopaedic, rehabilitation, sports medicine, or musculoskeletal care. Experience working with customers, patients, or the public. *An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn healthcare systems.

Reliable attendance and punctuality. Motor, Sensory, and Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and light lifting required. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Manual dexterity required to operate office and clinical equipment. Normal or correctable range of hearing and eyesight.
