Position Summary
Underwrites routine commercial (C&I and CRE) credits and monitors the ongoing quality of assigned commercial relationships. Analyzes financial performance and credit risk, prepares clear credit recommendations, and works with lenders and management to identify and address emerging portfolio concerns. Complex or higher-risk credits receive senior review.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. Two or more years of relevant commercial credit, lending, accounting, audit, or finance experience preferred. Ability to independently analyze routine commercial credits, write clear recommendations, use Excel and credit systems, and apply Bank policy with sound judgment and discretion.
Key Responsibilities
CREDIT UNDERWRITING Underwrite and independently analyze new loans, renewals, modifications, and extensions within assigned size, risk, and complexity limits. Evaluate borrower creditworthiness, primary and secondary repayment sources, management experience, industry risks, guarantor support, and related-party exposure.
Collect, spread, and analyze borrower/guarantor financials, tax returns, global cash flow, DSCR, leverage, liquidity, trends, collateral, and repayment sources. Prepare credit memoranda and recommend loan structure, covenants, risk ratings, and appropriate mitigants for identified risks and policy exceptions. CREDIT ADMINISTRATION & AUTHORITY Coordinate with lenders, Loan Operations, and Credit Administration to support timely credit decisions, accurate documentation, and compliance with Bank policies.
Maintain complete credit files and escalate material credit concerns. No independent loan approval, final risk-rating, or policy-exception authority unless specifically delegated PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT Complete assigned annual and interim credit reviews; monitor borrower performance, repayment trends, and emerging credit weaknesses.
Monitor upcoming loan maturities, renewals, and modifications, coordinating with lenders to ensure timely review and appropriate credit decisions Track financial reporting, covenants, borrowing bases, collateral coverage, documentation exceptions, and upcoming maturities; coordinate follow-up with lenders and support staff.
Reassess and recommend risk-rating changes; promptly escalate covenant breaches, adverse trends, and material credit concerns. Assist with criticized/classified loan monitoring, action-plan follow-up, portfolio concentrations, management reporting, and external loan-review responses. Competencies Strong accounting aptitude with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and resolve financial discrepancies. Strong organizational skills and ability to meet recurring daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines. Ability to understand how individual transactions affect the general ledger and overall financial statements.
Dependable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently while collaborating effectively across departments. Strong commitment to internal controls, confidentiality, and the integrity of the bank’s financial records. Ability to adapt as the bank grows and take on increasingly complex accounting and financial responsibilities.
General Requirements Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds. Some travel to branch or offsite locations may be required. Ability to sit, stand, and operate a computer for extended periods of time. Must comply with all bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
Demonstrate confidentiality, integrity, and sound judgment in all interactions. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as business needs dictate.
