• San Diego, CA, Salary Range: $100000.00 - $150000.00Salary, Location: San Diego, CA (with 50% regional/national travel) Reports To: Business Unit Manager (BUM) Division: San Diego Business Unit Position Overview Reotemp Instruments is a rapidly growing, nationally recognized manufacturer of industrial temperature and pressure instrumentation. The San Diego Business Unit manufactures thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transmitters, bimetal thermometers, and our proprietary wireless niche temperature monitoring system. We are seeking a high-energy, technically savvy Technical Business Development Manager (TBDM) to spearhead growth. Operating directly within the San Diego Business Unit (separate from our corporate sales division), this role is a hybrid of aggressive market development and technical product knowledge. The ideal candidate possesses the product knowledge to independently engage, map out, and close large-scale OEM accounts and industrial clients. This position will act as the business unit’s liaison to the corporate sales team and our distribution partners.

Key Responsibilities

Field Application Support & Joint Travel (50% Travel): Travel regularly with the corporate outside sales team to serve as the product subject matter expert. Support their existing distributor networks by providing application reviews and product trainings. Direct Prospecting & Hunting (50% Focus): Proactively identify, engage, and secure new business opportunities within critical target verticals, including Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), heavy industrial facilities, steel mills, engineering firms, and data centers.

Consultative Application Interface: Walk industrial facility floors and sit down with plant engineers and maintenance teams to solve temperature and pressure challenges. Translate application requirements into custom product configurations in coordination with the engineering team.. Ancillary Wireless Promotion: Act as a supplemental resource for the Reotemp Intelligence wireless monitoring platform.

While we have a dedicated wireless sales team, you will identify cross-selling opportunities and discuss niche applications (e.g., railcar terminals, industrial compost sites, & new applications) as a value-add when convenient during your standard industrial and OEM sales calls.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Skills Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in industrial or technical sales, with field application experience. Technical Aptitude: Willingness & ability to learn technical product details (e.g. Understanding the working principles of thermocouples/RTDs, accuracy & temperature limits, sheath material characteristics, etc.)

The "Hunter" Mentality: Demonstrated track record of opening doors at new accounts through direct prospecting and cold outreach. Communication & Credibility: Capability to adapt your communication style, equally comfortable talking business outcomes with C-suite executives or talking thread pitches, response times, and sensor drift with field engineers.

Travel Flexibility: Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to support field operations and corporate sales initiatives.

Education

Degree in Business, Engineering, or equivalent business development/sales experience.
