The Role The BIM/VDC Modeler is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining detailed Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) models throughout the project lifecycle. This position plays a key role in supporting project planning, design coordination, construction documentation, and field operations to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and successful project execution.
Working collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, Design Professionals, and Construction Teams, the BIM/VDC Modeler translates project requirements into accurate, comprehensive digital models and technical drawings. This role requires strong technical proficiency, exceptional attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects while supporting SCG Fields' commitment to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
What You’ll Do Project Design & Modeling Develop, modify, and maintain detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, renderings, and construction documentation utilizing BIM, CAD, and other applicable design software. Create and maintain accurate project models that incorporate design specifications, site conditions, construction requirements, and project objectives.
Prepare and assist with the development of construction documents, site plans, shop drawings, and other technical deliverables. Develop and manage earthwork models for heavy equipment machine control, grading operations, and earthwork volume and quantity calculations. Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure modeling accuracy and consistency.
BIM/VDC Coordination & Project Support Coordinate BIM/VDC activities throughout all phases of project development, from initial planning and design through construction and project completion. Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and other project team members to incorporate technical, structural, and functional requirements into project models and drawings.
Perform clash detection, identify potential design conflicts, and coordinate resolutions with appropriate project stakeholders. Support BIM/VDC coordination schedules, model updates, and project deliverables to ensure alignment with established timelines. Work closely with construction and field operations teams to address design-related questions, resolve modeling discrepancies, and support efficient project execution.
Participate in project coordination meetings and communicate design concepts, modeling updates, and technical information to internal teams, clients, and stakeholders. Project Management & Documentation Manage multiple modeling and design assignments simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, organization, and adherence to project deadlines.
Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design specifications, model revisions, coordination updates, and related technical records. Assist in the preparation of project proposals, estimates, bids, and presentations by providing relevant drawings, models, quantities, and technical information. Identify opportunities to improve modeling processes, project coordination, and overall design efficiency.
Stay informed of advancements in BIM/VDC technologies, industry standards, software applications, and best practices through ongoing professional development. Collaborate as an active member of the project team to consistently deliver The SCG Experience through quality workmanship, proactive communication, accountability, and exceptional customer service. Foster positive working relationships with coworkers, clients, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Design.
What You Bring Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD. Ability to read, interpret, and accurately translate construction drawings, technical plans, and project specifications into detailed digital models. Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to accuracy, quality, and consistency. Excellent organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.
Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and project teams. Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and contribute effectively in a team-oriented environment. Willingness to learn new technologies, adapt to evolving project requirements, and continuously improve technical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
1–5 years of professional experience in BIM/VDC modeling, design coordination, or a related technical discipline. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field. Experience with Revizto, Bluebeam, Autodesk Civil 3D, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Autodesk Forma, or similar design and coordination platforms.
Experience with BIM coordination, clash detection, and multidisciplinary model integration. Familiarity with site development, grading, earthwork modeling, and machine control applications. Previous experience supporting construction projects through design development, technical coordination, and field implementation.
