Welder / Fabricator Location: Poway, CA Pay Range: $26-$30 per hour (DOE & certification level) Skyhook Metal Designs dba Skyhook Stairs & Rails is a specialty contracting company focused on the design, fabrication, and installation of miscellaneous metals and light structural steel. Our work combines craftsmanship, engineering precision, and attention to detail.

We are currently seeking a skilled, safety-focused Certified Welder / Fabricator to support shop operations for out custom stair fabrication shop in Poway.

Position Summary

The Welder / Fabricator performs welding and fabrication of custom stairs, railing, and miscellaneous metal components, primarily in the shop and occasionally in the field. This role requires technical expertise, precision, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards. Candidate will be required to understand drawings and create layouts and cut & drill materials to precise tolerances needed in the stair & railing industry.

Driving is not a required function of this role; however, limited driving of a company vehicle may be permitted if business needs arise and only if the employee meets company driving eligibility requirements. This is a non-exempt, hourly position. The ideal candidate is experienced, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in both shop and active job site environments, which is occasionally needed by shop team.

General Qualifications Minimum 2 years of fabrication and welding experience preferably within architectural or structural metalwork Strong knowledge of steel fabrication methods, tools, and safety protocols. Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 75 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation Experience reading shop drawings and structural plans Excellent organizational and time management skills to keep track of project on tasks Current AWS or equivalent welding certification desirable Job Responsibilities Perform welding primarily on carbon steel and occasional other stainless & non-ferrous metals Field-fit, fabricate, and assemble metal components to tight tolerances Execute shop and field welds in accordance with AWS D1.

1/D1.2 standards Read and interpret fabrication drawings and project specifications Grind, polish, and finish architectural metalwork Maintain welding equipment and tools in a safe, clean, and organized manner Follow all OSHA and company safety policies and procedures Technical Experience MIG, TIG, FCAW, and SMAW welding processes Structural steel fabrication and assembly Architectural rail systems and miscellaneous metals Rigging and shop equipment operation Fabrication sequencing and field fit coordination Compensation & Employment Status Hourly, non-exempt position Pay based on experience and certification ($26–$30/hour) Overtime paid in accordance with California law, including daily and weekly overtime Eligible for company benefits, including health, dental, and vision coverage Eligible to participate in the Company’s SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with up to a 3% employer match All benefits available following completion of a 90-day introductory period Paid holidays for company-observed holidays and applicable paid sick leave in accordance with California law Work Schedule Full-time position Regular schedule: Monday through Thursday (4x10s) Occasional overtime may be required based on business needs Why Join Us You’ll be part of a skilled, professional team producing high-quality architectural metalwork for unique projects throughout Southern California.
