Governance & Democracy Manager

Are you an experienced governance professional with a passion for democratic decision-making, public sector leadership and community engagement? Rotorua Lakes Council is seeking a skilled and strategic Manager to lead the delivery of high-quality governance services that support elected members and strengthen local democracy.

This pivotal leadership role is responsible for ensuring Council's elected members are well-supported to fulfil their governance and leadership responsibilities, make informed decisions and build effective partnerships with our communities and stakeholders.

About the Role

As the Governance & Democracy Manager, you will lead a team responsible for the provision of governance, democratic, and administrative services across Council. You will work closely with the Mayor, Councillors, Community Board members, the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team and senior staff to ensure governance processes are robust, transparent, and aligned with legislative requirements and best practice.

You will play a key role in fostering strong relationships between elected members, Council officers, iwi, community groups, and key stakeholders, helping to ensure decisions reflect community aspirations and strategic priorities.
