Job Summary

To assist the classroom teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

● Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher. ● Assists teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.

● Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher. ● Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies and field trips. ● Provides assistance and monitors progress of students receiving services. ● Provides accommodations for students based on their IEPs.

● Communicates with the general education teacher on any issues or special information about an individual student. ● Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about Merrillville Community School Corporation is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.

Qualifications

● 2 years of college experience; or associates degree; or ● Paraprofessional Certificate ● Completed 48 credit hours of college level classes ● Experience with Special Education Instruction, preferred
