Job description

Title: Safety Supervisor Location: Pontiac, MI Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt (Salaried) Reports To: Safety Manager, Houston, TX Work Environment: Responsibilities span both office and manufacturing environments, including production areas and plant security.

Position Summary

The Safety Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment. This role supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs, policies, and procedures while ensuring compliance with MIOSHA, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and monitor workplace health and safety programs in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Promote a strong safety culture through employee engagement, training, and accident prevention initiatives. Evaluate workplace practices, procedures, and facilities to identify risks and ensure compliance with MIOSHA, OSHA, EPA, and other federal, state, and local requirements.

Conduct routine inspections of facilities, equipment, machinery, and operations to identify and correct unsafe conditions. Monitor employee and operational compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements. Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

Manage workers' compensation cases and support return-to-work programs. Maintain safety records, reports, and documentation as required by regulatory agencies and company policies. Analyze safety data and trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Recommend and implement corrective actions, process improvements, and preventive measures to reduce workplace risks.

Assist with emergency preparedness and response planning activities.

Qualifications

Proven experience as a Safety Supervisor, Safety Coordinator, or similar safety leadership role in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and workplace safety regulations and compliance requirements. Experience with hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal practices. Experience developing and implementing health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.

Ability to conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning. Strong analytical skills with experience tracking, analyzing, and reporting safety metrics. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively train and educate employees on safety topics.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management, or a related field. Professional safety certification such as CSP, ASP, OHST, or equivalent. Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, and ANSI standards. Experience with safety management systems and continuous improvement methodologies.

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and market considerations.
