Position Summary
The SAP Data Specialist I shows strong accuracy and judgment entering data and is ready to take ownership of data integrity across SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud. Rather than only entering records, this role evaluates and safeguards the quality of both master data and transactional data — confirming that information such as batch/lot numbers, quantities, and reference documents populate correctly as transactions move through the system — and partners with the Business Systems team to catch and correct issues before they affect operations, reporting, or compliance.
This role typically owns one assigned functional area day-to-day (for example, Sales & Distribution, Procurement, or Production) while contributing to data governance standards that apply across the whole system.
Key Responsibilities
Master Data Integrity Entering and maintaining master data (customer, material, vendor, pricing) across supported SAP modules, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Auditing existing master data on a recurring basis to identify duplicate, outdated, or inconsistent records, and driving correction at the source rather than just fixing the symptom.
Partnering with the Dev/Support team to flag systemic master data issues that need a process or configuration fix. Transactional Data Quality & Governance Evaluating transactional data as it moves through the system — for example, confirming batch/lot numbers, quantities, and dates populate correctly on production confirmations, sales orders, and purchase documents.
Reconciling transactional records against source documents to catch entry errors, missing references, or broken links between related documents (e.g., sales order → delivery → invoice). Monitoring recurring data-quality metrics and exception reports, and escalating patterns that suggest a training gap or system issue rather than a one-time mistake.
Supporting month-end/period-close data checks to confirm transactional data is complete and audit-ready. Functional Module Support (as assigned) Serving as the primary SAP data point of contact for one assigned functional area (e.g., Sales & Distribution, Procurement, or Production), including order/document entry and related master data for that area.
Training and supporting business users in that functional area on day-to-day system use (for example, data entry requests and system navigation). Data Governance & Standards Helping maintain data entry standards, naming conventions, and validation checklists used across the Data Governance Team. Training and mentoring team members on data entry best practices and common error patterns.
Supporting the Business Systems team with ad hoc data pulls, cleanup projects, and system enhancement testing. Required Qualifications Has 6–12+ months of hands-on SAP S/4HANA experience in a data entry or similar operational role (e.g., as a Data Clerk), with a demonstrated record of accuracy and catching errors before they become problems.
Has working knowledge of data governance practices and data quality metrics and applies that knowledge day-to-day rather than just on paper. Can evaluate both master data and transactional data — for example, confirming batch numbers, quantities, and reference documents are correct — and know when to escalate a pattern versus fixing a one-off.
Is highly proficient in Excel and comfortable navigating SAP across more than one module or transaction type. Communicates clearly with both business users and the Business Systems team and can train others on data entry standards. Has basic knowledge of accounting and how transactional data flows through order-to-cash and/or procure-to-pay processes.
Is detail-oriented and organized and takes ownership of data quality rather than waiting to be told about an error Physical Requirements Must be able to pass drug screening, medical physical and, if applicable, visual testing. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift/move up to 15 pounds at times.
