Statistics – 1:1 High School Teacher

The School for Independent Learners (SIL) is seeking a part-time, in-person AP Statistics Teacher to provide primarily one-to-one instruction to high school students. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year of teaching experience, preferably at the high-school level or above. Candidates should be comfortable teaching: AP Statistics College-preparatory Statistics Probability and statistical reasoning Data analysis, interpretation, and application Experience teaching additional mathematics courses is a strong plus, but not required.

This is a part-time position, with teaching hours based on student enrollment and demand. Our teaching schedule is flexible and designed to accommodate both students' families and teachers. Because SIL specializes in individualized instruction, teachers work primarily one-to-one with students, allowing them to adapt pacing, instruction, and support to each student's individual learning needs.

We are a small, WASC-accredited private high school located in Los Altos, CA. Our academic environment provides students with a safe, nurturing, and close-knit learning community utilizing thoughtfully developed, UC-approved curriculum. Classes are taught in real time and are primarily in person, with limited virtual instruction when appropriate.

Our teachers are dedicated to their craft, with an average tenure of approximately seven years. We provide a supportive and encouraging environment for educators of varying backgrounds and experience levels. The flexible nature of our school supports not only our students but also our teachers. In the past, several faculty members have pursued advanced degrees while concurrently remaining committed to their positions at SIL.

Since we are a private school, a California teaching credential is not required. We are unable to provide relocation assistance or sponsor work visas. We are seeking to fill this position as soon as possible for the 2026–27 academic year.
