Temporary Re-Engagement Specialist 1.0 FTE for 191 days (Prorated) Lakeridge High School JOB SUMMARY The Re-engagement Specialist will work as part of a team of counselors, teachers, and administrators at our district's middle and high schools in order to help our students stay engaged who have stopped attending school for various reasons including injury, social/emotional challenges, or academic difficulties.

This specialist will work in a school setting and home setting and will work in collaboration with students, parents, district staff, a social worker intern, and community resources to develop a plan to re-engage students in school and help them achieve their academic goals. Applicants must have an Oregon Teaching license or the ability to obtain licensure prior to start.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties

of this position include the following tasks. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned at any time. Organizes students who request online classes, home instruction, alternative settings include PCC Gateway to College and Yes to College, and monitors students at risk of not graduating.

Collaborates with students to learn, develop and apply behaviors and skills which strengthen academic performance. Assesses student strengths and weaknesses in regard to academic behaviors and skills. Provides individualized attention for areas of deficit, including both academic behaviors (i.e., organization, responsibility, timeliness, communication) and academic skills and concepts (i.

e., reading, writing, math, science, art). Creates an environment where emotional safety and trust are key, where students can take risks and feel comfortable learning. Considers and responds to social-emotional components that may be impacting academic success. Maintains communication with teachers, administrators, counselors, Student Success Specialist, and parents, as appropriate.

Tracks data to share with building an intervention team. Participates in building an intervention team to assess and implement the next steps for students. Provides input regarding appropriate intervention strategies for students. Provides direct instruction, as appropriate, for students needing intervention. Teaches students organizational strategies, note-taking skills, prioritization of school work, self-advocacy skills, and improved communication with teachers, including discussions about accommodations and recovering after school absences.

Check in with students regularly to understand how they are doing, what they are working on, what help they need, so that they feel connected to an adult advocate at this school and receive the support that they need. Regularly checks students' grades in Synergy, to be aware of their performance in their classes. Communicates with teachers about expectations for assignments, preparing for upcoming tests and projects, and the effect of interventions in the classroom.

Works in professional collaborative groups with other teachers on issues related to implementing effective content instruction and assessment. Communicates regularly with students and parents/guardians about academic performance. Works collaboratively with ASC teacher and Student Success Specialist. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in applying conflict management and dispute resolution techniques.

Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all district policies and procedures. Maintains consistent, daily and punctual attendance. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Non-essential duties of this position include the following tasks. Employees in this position perform some or all of these tasks. Other duties may be assigned at any time.

Operates various office equipment including audio visual equipment/devices, telephones and photocopy machines. Orders supplies. Moves classroom furniture and organizes classroom to enhance student learning. Attends in-service trainings, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned. Attends professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.

Provides staff development activities for staff during in-service meetings. Serves on building and district committees and councils as assigned. Communicates information about district, school and/or departmental policies and procedures to students, staff, parents and patrons. Supervises students on school grounds, on field trips and at various school functions.

Reports issues to the principal and the appropriate authorities including safety, sanitary and fire hazards, vandalism, thefts and errant wildlife. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Consistently follows all applicable federal and state laws and all district policies, rules and supervisor directions. Observes ergonomics of sedentary office work including placement of computers and monitors, and sitting alignment.

Observes proper lifting techniques and other strategies to avoid accidents and personal injury while performing job duties. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A Bachelor's degree in Education is required, a Master's degree is preferred. A valid Oregon teacher license with necessary endorsements is required. Three (3) years of successful teaching experience is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development is required. Works well with others from diverse backgrounds.

Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptions. Interacts with staff and students appropriately .

Ability to communicate in English fluently both verbally and in writing, including proficiency in spelling and grammar. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies, vendors and members of the community. Ability to read and interpret documents including governmental regulations, safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions/ instruction manuals.

Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence with high degrees of accuracy and professionalism. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages and proportions. Ability to read and interpret various charts, bar graphs and similar visual data depictions.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving more than one variable. Ability to effectively use office computers and internet access for email, research, word processing, database manipulation, visual presentations and general web-based applications Ability to exercise good judgment and work effectively in a dynamic environment.

A valid Oregon Driver's License is required. Must have or able to obtain various certificates, licenses and/or registrations as required by federal, state or local law(s) and/or determined by the district. The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon the location, the student population and current activities.
