Position Summary

The Interpreter will provide accurate interpretation and translation of medical visits to patients on behalf of providers and the clinical care team, who are seeing and serving patients who cannot speak or understand English, when specifically required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Precisely and accurately interprets information from the provider and clinical care team from English to the native language. Assists in translating medical text from English to Spanish on behalf of patients; may translate patient education information as specifically requested. Establishes and maintains quality service and positive interaction with all patients, customers, visitors, health care providers, and staff.

Adheres to the National Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Health care and to the National Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care. Assists with patient follow-up as necessary, including contacting patients with appointment reminders. Maintains strict patient confidentiality by organizations policies and standards.

Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or requested by the Manager or Director. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent At least 2 years of experience in healthcare or interpreting. Certificates of Competency from an approved Interpreter training program. Fluent in both languages English and Spanish Written and Oral skills in both languages required Computer skills required such as: Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment Continually required to stand, walk, sit Continually required to talk and hear Occasional exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
