Job description

Engineer, Agility Enablement Become a Part of the NPT Team National Philanthropic Trust was founded in 1996. Since that time, have raised more than $95.8 billion in charitable contributions and currently manage $68.7 billion in charitable assets. We have made more than 1.1 million grants totaling more than $55.5 billion to charities all over the world.

We rank among the largest grantmaking institutions in the United States. Our mission is to increase philanthropy in society. To that end, our experienced staff of philanthropic professionals are fully prepared to help you establish and administer your donor-advised fund. NPT is led by a Board of Trustees composed of nationally known experts in philanthropy and business.

At National Philanthropic Trust, we foster a welcoming environment for all. People are valued and respected for who they are—with opportunities to bring their entrepreneurial spirit and talents to increase giving around the world. We have an inclusive, supportive, collaborative culture that makes National Philanthropic Trust one of the most rewarding places to work.

About the role

Every piece of IT work at NPT, from the first idea or request to the final release, runs through Jira, Jira Service Management, Jira Product Discovery, and Confluence. You'll own that platform and make it the system of record our teams actually rely on: one intake path for all IT work, workflows that enforce our delivery standards and SOC 2 controls automatically, and metrics that leaders and teams trust and use.

This is a hands-on configuration, automation, and integration role. You'll turn the standards set by our IT Delivery Center of Excellence into system behavior, so the right way to work is also the easiest way. Success is measured by adoption and data quality, not by how much you configure. We're building toward an AI native software delivery lifecycle, where AI agents take on a growing share of planning, development, review, and maintenance while people focus on direction, judgment, and quality.

Agents can only work from the context they're given, and much of ours lives in Jira and Confluence, which makes this role central to how far AI can take us. From day one you'll connect approved AI assistants such as Claude to the platform, and as the foundation matures you'll lead our move toward agent driven delivery.

What you'll do

Own the platform Serve as primary administrator for Jira, Jira Service Management, Jira Product Discovery, and Confluence, covering configuration, workflows, permissions, automation, apps, and platform health Design the work hierarchy, fields, and linking conventions so every piece of work connects to its purpose, decisions, and outcomes, for people and AI tools alike Keep the platform clean by consolidating duplicate fields, enforcing naming conventions, and retiring what's no longer used Run a backlog and office hours for platform requests, so teams know how to get help and what's coming Build one intake path and a clear view of the portfolio Build a single intake path in Jira Service Management for all IT work, with routing, SLAs, forms, and a knowledge base, and retire our legacy intake system Own Jira Product Discovery so ideas and requests are captured, shaped, and prioritized with Product before they become delivery work Configure the portfolio hierarchy and planning views that support our quarterly planning cycle Build controls into the workflow Enforce Definition of Ready and Done, change approvals, release gates, and test evidence in the workflow rather than by convention Support the Change Advisory Board with a change calendar and a complete, auditable record of who approved what and when Return SOC 2 audit samples straight from the system, in partnership with Cybersecurity Build a shared workflow backbone across delivery teams, with room to adapt where a team’s model calls for it, without breaking cross-team reporting Connect source control and CI/CD so builds, deployments, and test results show up on the work itself Define metrics and drive their use Help define the delivery metrics we publish, with a documented definition for each one Build three reporting layers: delivery against quarterly commitments, investment mix, throughput trends, and service performance for leaders; backlog readiness, roadmap progress, and lead time from request to delivery for Product Owners; and work in progress, cycle time, aging and blocked work, and quality for teams Establish the data quality that makes those metrics defensible, and automate recurring reporting so it's generated rather than assembled by hand Track adoption of the platform and our standards across teams, and lay the groundwork for DORA metrics as teams mature Lead AI native delivery Build and maintain the MCP connections that let approved AI assistants query Jira, create and update work, and author Confluence documentation Build repeatable AI assisted workflows, such as turning discovery notes into epics and stories or producing metrics summaries from live data Set the guardrails: scoped permissions, service accounts, human review points, and clear labeling of AI generated content Design the platform so agents can be introduced without rework, with clear handoffs, human checkpoints, and agent activity traced alongside human work Stay current on Atlassian, AI tools, and industry practice, and turn what you learn into a practical roadmap for our teams Champion AI native delivery across IT by showing what's possible and helping colleagues adopt new ways of working Enable the teams Document configuration and runbooks so the platform never depends on one person Train Agility Leads, Product Owners, technical leads, and requesters, and advise when a request would undermine our standards or the integrity of reporting What you bring At least 5 years of relevant, hands-on Atlassian administration experience, including experience serving as a primary administrator of Jira Cloud and at least 2 years of hands-on experience with Jira Service Management.

Deep skill in workflows, schemes, custom fields, JQL, and Jira Automation, and the judgment to know when automation is the wrong answer Experience delivering a Jira Service Management implementation or migration Experience building approval and change workflows that support audit requirements such as SOC 2 Experience defining metrics and building dashboards that both executives and practitioners actually use Hands-on experience with REST APIs, webhooks, and at least one scripting language Daily use of AI tools in your own work, an informed view of where they help and where they fall short, and a real point of view on agentic AI and how to govern it Experience building AI assisted workflows that other people use The ability to make the case for AI native delivery to technical and non-technical audiences, and to bring skeptical colleagues along Working knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, and flow metrics Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Nice to have Atlassian certifications such as ACP-120 or ACP-420 Building MCP servers, or connecting coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot to work tracking systems Running AI agents against a work tracking system, with routing, human checkpoints, and audit Familiarity with ITIL service and change management practice Experience with the following: Jira Plans, Atlassian Analytics or data visualization third-party apps, Script.

Runner, Rovo, Atlassian Strategy Collection for portfolio management Why you'll like it here A platform you get to shape, not just maintain. A front row seat on AI native delivery, with leadership support to try new tools. Work that's visible every day. Leaders and every IT team rely on what you build. A mission that matters.

NPT helps donors and financial partners put philanthropy to work. Hybrid Work Schedule: This position follows a hybrid work schedule and requires onsite presence in our Conshohocken, PA office every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
