Snowflake Data Modeler with Vault

Snowflake Data Modeler Role Summary: Design logical and physical data models optimized for Snowflake, ensuring alignment with business requirements, scalability, and query performance.

Key Responsibilities

Gather and analyze business/data requirements to design conceptual, logical, and physical data models Build dimensional models (Star/Snowflake schema) and/or Data Vault models (Hubs, Links, Satellites) tailored to Snowflake architecture Translate models into Snowflake DDL, considering clustering keys, micro-partitioning, and semi-structured data handling Maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and lineage documentation Use modeling tools (Erwin, ER/Studio, SqlDBM, dbt) to create and version data models Collaborate with developers and architects to ensure models support ETL/ELT performance and reporting/BI needs Perform normalization/denormalization trade-off analysis based on query patterns and workload Support slowly changing dimensions (SCD Type 1/2/3) design and implementation Conduct data model reviews, enforce naming standards/conventions, and ensure consistency across domains Mentor junior modelers and support data governance initiatives (for senior-level candidates) Required Skills 7+ years in data modeling, with 4+ years modeling specifically for Snowflake or cloud data warehouses Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling (Kimball) and/or Data Vault 2.

0 methodology Proficiency with data modeling tools (Erwin, ER/Studio, SqlDBM, Power. Designer) Solid SQL skills and understanding of Snowflake-specific constructs (VARIANT, clustering, materialized views) Understanding of metadata management, data lineage, and data governance principles Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (BI, ETL, business analysts) Good to Have Experience with dbt for model-driven transformation and documentation Exposure to data catalog/governance tools (Collibra, Alation)
