Job description

Purpose The Drill Operator position is responsible for safely performing skilled work which focuses on the operation of a drill utilized for blasting (rock removal) on construction projects. Worksites are located throughout Kentucky and Indiana.

Job Responsibilities

Assist with layout and preparation of blast patterns and shot areas. Operate drilling equipment to drill blast holes for construction blasting, including mass/production blasting, trench blasting, and presplit blasting. Maintain accurate drill logs documenting hole locations, depths, and significant drilling conditions.

Communicate changes in rock conditions, water, voids, or other conditions encountered while drilling to the Blasting Foreman. Assist with unloading and handling explosives. Assist with magazine inventory. Perform other construction and blasting-related duties as assigned including job site labor duties. Perform servicing and maintenance of equipment as scheduled and required.

May operate a variety of equipment dependent upon skill set including, but not limited to skid steers, loaders and dozers. Participates in cross training activities. Obtain and maintain ATF Employee Possessor clearance Education and Experience 2+ years’ experience operating a drill. Must be willing to learn and receive hands-on training in blasting operations Willing to work long hours if necessary.

Skills and Specifications Thorough understanding of various aspects of the blasting industry and all types of blasting equipment. Operate equipment with a high degree of competency, skill, and proficiency. Knowledge of basic maintenance of operating equipment. Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.

Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Experience working in a team environment.
