Job Description Summary Functions as the assistant to the surgeon during an operation. Includes performing individualized nursing care management before, during and after surgery.   • Dialysis Access Institute Pay Rate Type Hourly Pay Grade Health-28 Scheduled Weekly Hours 8 Work Shift Job Description Pre-operatively:
  1. Interviews surgical patients for comprehensive health histories.
  2. Educates patients and offers emotional support.
  3. Evaluates needs of patients and surgical team on a continuum throughout Perioperative experience. Intra-operatively:
  4. Collaborates with surgeons for optimal surgical outcomes.
  5. Assists anesthesia when indicated.
  6. Assists with patient positioning, skin preparation, and draping.
  7. Provides wound exposure
  8. Handles tissue appropriately to reduce potential for injury
  9. Uses and manipulates surgical instruments
  10. Controls blood loss including hemostasis
  11. Sutures tissue Post-operatively:
  12. Assists in safe delivery of patient to Recovery Room
  13. Communicates to appropriate health care personnel and patient’s family
  14. Performs follow-up care to evaluate patient condition
  15. Participates in discharge planning and post-operative teaching. Performs all other duties as assigned. Additional Job Description Minimum Requirements: Associate's Degree, and a minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Physical Requirements:
  16. Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  17. Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
  18. Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
  19. Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
  20. Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
  21. Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
  22. Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
  23. Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
