Reports To: Angio Suite Nursing Director / Clinical Leadership Position Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Vascular Surgery Medical Group is a growing outpatient vascular practice specializing in minimally invasive vascular procedures, angiography, peripheral interventions, venous treatments, and patient-centered care. Our mission is to improve patient outcomes through advanced vascular treatments, exceptional clinical care, and a commitment to safety and excellence.

We are seeking an experienced Scrub Technician with Sterile Processing Department (SPD) experience to join our Angio Suite team. This full-time position plays a critical role in supporting physicians during diagnostic and interventional vascular procedures while also supporting sterile processing, instrumentation, infection prevention, and procedural readiness.

The ideal candidate will have strong scrub experience in a Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, Vascular Surgery Center, Hybrid OR, or similar procedural environment , combined with hands-on sterile processing experience.

Position Summary

The Scrub Technician is responsible for preparing procedure rooms, establishing and maintaining the sterile field, assisting physicians during vascular and endovascular procedures, handling specialized instruments and equipment, and supporting procedural efficiency and patient safety. An important component of this position is supporting Sterile Processing (SPD) functions.

The Scrub Technician will utilize their knowledge of decontamination, instrument inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and infection prevention to ensure instruments and procedural equipment are properly processed and available for patient care. The successful candidate must be able to anticipate physician and team needs during complex vascular procedures and assist with diagnostic angiograms, peripheral interventions, angioplasty, atherectomy, stent placement, thrombectomy procedures, venous interventions, and other minimally invasive vascular treatments.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare procedure rooms for diagnostic and interventional vascular cases. Establish and maintain sterile fields throughout procedures. Scrub and assist physicians during vascular and endovascular procedures. Anticipate physician needs and provide appropriate instruments, catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, atherectomy devices, and other procedural equipment.

Assist with peripheral angiography, angioplasty, stenting, atherectomy, thrombectomy, venous interventions, and related procedures. Prepare procedural trays, instruments, equipment, and supplies prior to cases. Inspect instruments and equipment for cleanliness, integrity, and proper function. Assist with patient positioning and procedural preparation.

Ensure proper handling, documentation, and tracking of implants and procedural devices. Maintain inventory and appropriate stock levels for procedural supplies, instruments, and equipment. Participate in room turnover and preparation between cases. Follow established infection prevention, sterile technique, and patient safety standards.

Assist with emergency situations and procedural complications as directed. Accurately document implant logs, supply utilization, and required procedural information. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, radiology staff, and clinical leadership to promote efficient patient flow and positive patient outcomes. Sterile Processing (SPD) Responsibilities Perform and/or support the proper collection, containment, transportation, cleaning, and decontamination of reusable surgical and procedural instruments.

Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, damage, and completeness. Assemble and prepare instrument trays and procedural sets according to established standards and facility protocols. Package and prepare instruments for sterilization. Follow appropriate sterilization procedures and monitor sterilization processes in accordance with facility policies.

Follow manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs) for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and equipment handling. Maintain appropriate separation of contaminated, clean, and sterile instruments and supplies. Ensure sterile instruments and supplies are properly stored and available for scheduled procedures. Inspect sterile packaging and sterilization indicators prior to use.

Assist with instrument inventory, tray organization, replacement needs, and instrument tracking. Identify and immediately communicate concerns involving instrument integrity, sterilization, contamination, or equipment malfunction. Maintain compliance with infection prevention, sterile processing, safety, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

Support readiness for regulatory and accreditation surveys related to sterile processing and the procedural environment. Training, Quality & Team Support Serve as a resource to other Scrub Technicians and members of the Angio Suite team. Assist with training and orientation of staff on procedural workflows, sterile technique, instrumentation, equipment use, physician preferences, and SPD practices.

Promote consistent adherence to clinical, safety, infection control, sterile processing, and procedural standards. Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to patient safety, infection prevention, workflow efficiency, accreditation, and regulatory compliance. Identify opportunities to improve procedural workflow, instrument availability, supply utilization, and overall Angio Suite efficiency.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned based on operational and patient-care needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training preferred. Minimum six (6) years of scrub technician, surgical technology, or related procedural experience preferred. Sterile Processing Department (SPD) experience required. Demonstrated knowledge of instrument decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and infection prevention practices.

Strong understanding of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation. Experience working in a Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, Vascular Surgery, Hybrid OR, Operating Room, or similar procedural environment strongly preferred. Experience assisting with vascular and/or interventional procedures preferred. Ability to anticipate procedural and physician needs.

Knowledge of radiation safety principles. Ability to maintain composure and sound judgment in a fast-paced procedural environment. Strong organizational, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Vascular Equipment Experience Preferred Experience handling vascular and interventional equipment, including: Guidewires Sheaths Diagnostic catheters Balloons Stents Atherectomy devices Closure devices Thrombectomy systems Preferred Qualifications Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.

CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician), CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician), or equivalent sterile processing certification. RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) certification. Endovascular or peripheral vascular intervention experience. Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology experience.

Hybrid Operating Room experience. Experience with instrument tracking and inventory management systems. Experience in AAAHC or CMS-accredited facilities. Experience training, mentoring, or orienting clinical staff. Experience participating in quality improvement, infection prevention, patient safety, or accreditation initiatives.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods during procedures. Ability to wear lead aprons and radiation protection equipment throughout procedural cases. Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds. Ability to assist with patient positioning and transfers. Frequent bending, reaching, and movement within procedural and sterile processing areas.

Ability to safely handle and transport contaminated, clean, and sterile surgical instruments. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity clinical environment. Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, and staff.
