Position Title: Environmental Services Evening Manager Work Type: Full time Location: Swarthmore College. On Campus Department: Work Shift: Evening Shift (United States of America) Pay Range ( Please note that this pay range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range at the time of posting.)

: 77,000.00 USD - 89,000.00 USD The Opportunity: The Environmental Services Evening Custodial Manager – On evening shift manages two Lead employees and it is to ensure the timely and proper custodial care of college buildings over two shifts through the work of a diverse workforce. Working with the assistance of the night shift crew lead and other department leaders, the Manager’s tasks include collaborating in the development and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures; managing personnel issues; developing and maintaining schedules for cleaning and maintenance of campus buildings; and recommending and requisitioning equipment, materials, and supplies.

The evening manager will also be responsible for submitting monthly QA reports that come under their oversight. Essential Responsibilities: Team Supervision: Oversee the evening supervisor from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM and a lead working the same shift. Manage the overnight crew lead (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM) responsible for ensuring the dining services building meets APPA standards.

Quality Assurance and Reporting: Conduct regular QA inspections across second and third shift buildings, ensuring all operations comply with cleanliness and safety standards. Submit comprehensive monthly QA reports detailing the cleanliness of each building, with corrective action plans for locations falling beneath the 85% cleanliness threshold.

Performance Management: Execute annual performance assessments for all crew leads under their supervision, fostering growth, accountability, and excellence within the custodial team. The evening manager will be responsible for the training and development of crew leads and all frontline staff. Strategic Planning and Communication: Develop and implement strategic cleaning plans to efficiently utilize resources and address both routine and unexpected custodial challenges.

Maintain clear communication channels with staff and stakeholders, ensuring alignment on prioritizing cleanliness and policy adherence. Payroll The evening manager will be responsible for the bi-weekly payroll for the evening and overnight shifts. The evening manager will also be responsible for tracking all overtime used for the second and third shifts.

The evening manager will also track all absenteeism and lateness for all employees working the second and third shifts. Additional Responsibilities Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Demonstrates and maintains technical knowledge of the job as well as related procedures and policies to provide quality support to the department and its constituents.

Demonstrates appropriate self-direction and drives productivity in accordance with established standards of quality. Appropriately plans, organizes, and prioritizes work in order to maximize the use of department resources. Independently contributes ideas and delivers process improvements Identifies, analyzes, and addresses problems with minimal negative impact on the organization.

Makes appropriate, timely and effective decisions in order to support the work of the department. Builds successful working relationships with coworkers and supervisors through effective communication and teamwork where appropriate. Projects a positive image of the Environmental Services Department and of Swarthmore College.

Works successfully with coworkers, students, faculty, and other staff members in order to efficiently and effectively define and accomplish the work of the department. Adapts to new work situations, people, ideas, procedures, and organizational structures, to be successful in a constantly changing work environment. Exhibits maturity, reliability, composure, and stability under pressure Understands and abides by a high standard of professional ethics in order to ensure the integrity of the organization.

Managerial Responsibilities Must be able to manage and prioritize workloads for second and third shifts. The evening managers must be able to skillfully pivot frontline staff to meet opportunities for project work for staff reallocation due to callouts and vacations.

The evening manager must possess the skill to breakdown large tasks into smaller tasks while not compromising on departmental standards for cleanliness. Must be willing to achieve trainer designation from ISSA within one year of employment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications Highschool diploma or equivalent 5 years of managerial experience in custodial work 3 years of project management experience Valid driver's license to navigate campus vehicles Proficiency in Google suite Must have a strong record of project management and also be able to care for various floor surfaces from marmoleum to terrazzo and carpet extraction.

Physical Demands Must have the physical ability to perform Environmental Services/Housekeeping tasks, complete building inspections, and make small repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment. Ability to move, position, transport and place objects up to and including 50 pounds is required. Frequently involves pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, holding, carrying, reaching above the shoulders, stooping, bending at the waist, bending at the knees, kneeling, bending side to side, crouching, standing on step stools or small ladders and balancing.

Working Conditions Exposure to inclement weather as well as to dirt/dust, chemicals/solvents, and noise. Frequently exposed to harsh chemicals and odors. Willingness to work outside of regular shift and/or weekends as needed. Required to travel and attend training seminars. PA Criminal Clearance Required Swarthmore College requires a PA Criminal background check for all staff positions prior to the start of employment.
