Job description

Position: Respiratory Therapist (RT) Employment Type: Parttime/PRN Setting: Skilled Nursing Location: Milwaukee, WI Position Summary The Respiratory Therapist will provide comprehensive respiratory care to residents with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. This position works collaboratively with nursing, physicians, rehabilitation professionals, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement appropriate respiratory care plans.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, compassionate, and committed to providing person-centered care in a long-term care environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide respiratory assessments, treatments, and interventions according to physician orders and established care plans. Monitor residents for changes in respiratory status and communicate significant findings to the appropriate healthcare professionals. Administer respiratory treatments, oxygen therapy, and other prescribed respiratory interventions.

Manage and monitor respiratory equipment, including oxygen delivery systems and other related equipment. Assist with airway management and suctioning as appropriate. Educate residents, families, and caregivers regarding respiratory conditions, treatments, equipment, and disease management. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

Collaborate with nursing, physicians, therapy, and other interdisciplinary team members to promote optimal resident outcomes. Respond appropriately to respiratory emergencies and changes in resident conditions. Follow infection prevention, safety, regulatory, and facility policies and procedures. Promote resident dignity, comfort, independence, and quality of life.

Qualifications

Current Respiratory Therapist (RT) credential. Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Current Wisconsin licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner or eligibility for Wisconsin licensure. Current BLS certification preferred or required according to facility policy. Previous experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, acute care, or another healthcare setting is preferred.

Strong clinical assessment, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Compassionate, dependable, and committed to providing high-quality, resident-centered care.
