Job description
About the Company
General Matter is enriching uranium in America.
Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States.
Our mission is to restore America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel—fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors.
Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society.
We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.
We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.
Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.
About This Role
We're building high-density compute infrastructure at scale, and we're hiring an Electrical Engineer to own power distribution inside the rack. You'll define how power gets from the facility tap-off to every server PSU in racks. That means selecting PDUs and power shelves, laying out busbars, assigning outlets and phases, and making sure every rack stays up when a feed goes down.
This is a hands-on design role, not a specification-only role. We want someone who has designed high-power distribution, tested it, broken it, and fixed it, whether in a hyperscale data center, an AI rack integration line, an EV powertrain, or a launch vehicle. You'll be the technical authority on rack power and the bridge between facility electrical and IT hardware. You'll set the technical foundation for infrastructure of lasting national importance.
If you want high impact and thrive on fast-paced, intense, first-of-a-kind projects, we encourage you to apply.
Responsibilities
Rack Power Architecture
- Own the rack power architecture end to end, from busway tap-off or RPP through rack PDUs, in-rack busbars, and power shelves to server PSUs
- Define rack power topologies for high-density AI/GPU and HPC deployments , including OCP Open Rack (ORv3) busbar, emerging higher-voltage DC architectures, and liquid-cooled configurations
- Set rack-level redundancy strategy (A/B feeds, PSU N+1 and N+N) and verify failure-mode loading under single-feed operation
Detailed Design & Analysis
- Select and specify rack PDUs (metered, switched, intelligent), power shelves, BBUs, and power cords and whips (IEC C13/C19/C20, IEC 60309, NEMA L21)
- Produce rack elevations with power assignments, outlet-level load schedules, and phase-balance calculations
- Analyze inrush current, hold-up time, branch- and rack-level breaker coordination, voltage drop, and connector and busbar thermal loading
- Size branch circuits, tap-offs, and RPP circuits, and set derating and power-capping strategy for variable GPU workloads
Integration & Validation
- Work directly with server OEMs, ODMs, and PDU and power shelf vendors on design reviews, submittals, and technical issues
- Coordinate with facility electrical, mechanical/liquid cooling, controls, and IT hardware teams to resolve rack-to-facility interface issues
- Lead rack power validation through lab testing, factory integration, and on-site commissioning, and drive root cause on any power issue found
- Integrate rack power monitoring (intelligent PDUs, branch circuit monitoring) with DCIM
Design Control
- Prepare design packages that move through formal engineering review, configuration management, and change control
- Ensure compliance with NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, NFPA 75, applicable IEEE standards, and UL/IEC listing requirements for rack equipment
Basic Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
- [5+] years of electrical design experience, including at least [3] years designing high-power distribution at the rack, module, or system level (data center, hyperscale, AI hardware, EV, energy storage, or aerospace)
- Direct design experience with PDUs, busbars, power shelves, battery or power electronics distribution, or server power delivery, not only facility-level MEP design
- Strong command of redundancy architectures, phase balancing, circuit sizing, inrush, and fault and failure-mode behavior
- Experience taking power designs through testing, integration, or commissioning
- Proficiency producing elevations, load schedules, and one-line diagrams (AutoCAD, Revit, Visio, or similar)
- Must be a U.S. person (export control requirement) and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance [FSO to confirm wording]
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with high-density AI/GPU racks such as NVIDIA GB200/GB300 NVL72, MGX, or comparable platforms
- Experience with OCP Open Rack (ORv3) busbar, BBU systems, or higher-voltage DC distribution (EV, energy storage, or DC rack architectures)
- Liquid-cooled power integration experience (power and cooling interface, CDU and manifold coordination, or liquid-cooled power electronics)
- Background on a hyperscaler hardware team, AI rack integrator, ODM, PDU or power shelf manufacturer, or an EV, energy storage, or aerospace power systems team
- Familiarity with facility-side distribution (busway, RPPs, UPS) and power system tools (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience working under formal design control or QA programs (aerospace, defense, automotive, medical, or other regulated industries)
Additional Requirements
Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
