We are currently seeking a TEACHER ASSISTANT for our year-round program in Walpole, MA .

Starting pay rate is $22.50 - $26.40/hour, depending on years of experience and level of education completed. Schedule: M-F 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Position Requirements: Associate's Degree or specialized training in a related field or experience working with autistic individuals strongly preferred Para-professional, Teacher’s Aide, or other special education experience preferred Safety Care, CPR, and First Aid certifications (League School will provide training) Valid driver’s license Must pass rigorous background checks, including nationwide fingerprint screening.

Duties and Responsibilities

Implements lessons and tasks, according to Individual Education Programs, within the classroom/school and community settings. Supervises students in the classroom and across the school building at all times. Supports students in a 1:1 or small group capacity (up to 4 students) Assists students in activities of daily living, as needed (e.

g., showering, toileting, dressing, completing hygiene routines, etc.) Supports residential students to get ready for the school day by helping them follow their individualized schedules, routines, and student support plans. This may include helping students make and/or eat breakfast and engage in their hygiene routines for the day.

Supports residential students as needed on school half days and professional development days. Supports residential students when the school is closed unexpectedly during staff’s scheduled work hours. Participates in the development of curriculum content, behavior intervention strategies and daily living-skill techniques for individual students and follows through on the strategies developed by the team.

Collects and records data regarding students’ individualized education program (IEP) goals, behavioral presentation, 1:1 support, etc. Develops a therapeutic and effective relationship with students. Uses appropriate voice modulation, sets reasonable boundaries with communication and actions, etc. Follows schedules within the classroom and the school to provide structure to students.

Follows the plans left by Head Teachers when Head Teachers are absent. Coordinates with Education Coordinators if there are no plans in place due to extenuating circumstances. Implements student support plans as designed by the student’s multidisciplinary team. Completes daily paperwork, as needed including, but not limited to: daily notes to parents/caregivers, incident reports, inputting behavior and/or academic data, accident reports, etc.

Monitors health and safety of students and follows through with the school nurse on incidents requiring medical attention. Works as a team player. Attends supervision, classroom meetings, program meetings and staff meetings. Comes prepared with an agenda ready to discuss issues from a problem solving perspective. Drives and/or supervises students at community-based job sites as needed and provides job-coaching services for students according to individual program needs.

Transports students in League School vans as needed. Acts as liaison for communication between community-based employers and the League School’s Vocational Coordinator according to individual program needs. Participates in all trainings, as required by League School for Autism. Drives and/or accompanies students to community trips or doctor’s appointments, as needed.

Performs other related duties, as designated by the Head Teacher, Education Coordinator, Assistant Director of Education and/or Senior Director, that are deemed necessary for the operation of the school, such as evening trainings, open houses, conferences, etc. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, run, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Employees are required to intervene with student behavior according to the guidelines of Safety Care. These interventions may involve blocking aggressions and restraining students. These physical management procedures may require the employee to move from standing to kneeling, kneeling to standing, and to use both of their arms to restrict movement.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
