6th Grade Science/Social Studies Teacher

Middle School Science & Social Studies Teacher (Grade 6. The mission of New Vision Charter School is to challenge, encourage, and empower students every day to persevere on their journey to becoming lifelong learners. We are looking for a creative, inspiring professional to join our 6th grade team! Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing Core Knowledge Science and Social Studies curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. Essential Performance Responsibilities Teaches appropriate, grade level, standards-based Core Knowledge curriculum Thorough understanding of the teaching/learning process and knowledge of best instructional practices Ability to create a rigorous, well managed, risk-free, and nurturing classroom environment Communicate with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems. Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, office staff, students, parents, and the community. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent human relations and customer service skills. Continuous growth and development in the grade level and content area Willingness to take responsibility for decisions made and actions taken Desire to seek advice as necessary when making decisions Commitment to the school mission and vision Familiarity and comfort with modern technology Willingness to commit the time and effort to achieve success Model and instruct positive character traits Develop lesson plans in line with the New Vision Charter School philosophy and Core Knowledge curriculum Attend meetings, conferences, and professional development training as required Coordinate special events and field trips to enrich the curriculum Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other NVCS administrators. Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Qualifications

Must possess a current Colorado Secondary Teacher License in Science or Social Studies Experience in or familiarity with Core Knowledge Curriculum preferred 3 years teaching experience with an emphasis on science instruction preferred Education Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education in science or social studies/history.

Masters Degree preferred. Experience Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
