Job description
Grades 5 & 6 Boys Basketball Coach Mc. Lean School ( mcleanschool.org ), a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland, seeks applicants for a Boys Grades 5 & 6 Basketball Coach for the Winter 2026-2027 season, which runs from November through the beginning of February. For more than 70 years, Mc. Lean School has helped bright K-12 students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college-preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction.

The Boys Grades 5 & 6 Basketball Coach is responsible for team oversight, acting as a positive role model, and supporting the Mission and Core Values of the School .
This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics, Coaching, and Mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience as a youth, high school, and/or club-level coach, experience with providing differentiated instruction to athletes of all levels, effective written and oral communication skills, knowledgeable of the fundamentals and techniques of competitive basketball, an ability to build relationships and work well with others, and a sharp perspective on the role of athletics in the educational experience.
Essential Duties
Be a positive role model Plan, direct, and administer policies for all team practices and matches Communicate team expectations at the start of the season Design training sessions that are dynamic, engaging, and provide challenge Create an environment of respect that is rooted in hard work, teamwork, sportsmanship, and supporting teammates Communicate with athletes and parents Ensure proper safety measures are observed when conducting team activities Attend seasonal coaches' meetings Give appropriate attention, care, and follow-up to student-athletes who are injured or ill, including filling out injury report forms Mc.
