Structural Fitter

Structural Fitter Pay: $21-$26/hour Location: Houston, TX Job Type: Temp-to-Hire Schedule: Mon-Fri | 6:00am - 4:30pm (Some Saturdays as needed) The Houston branch of Openwork has partnered with a local manufacturing company to add a Structural Fitter to their growing team. This is a great long-term opportunity for someone with welding experience seeking stability and a long-term career.

What You'll Be Doing: Blueprint Reading & Layout: Read and interpret detailed blueprints, shop drawings, diagrams, and engineering specifications to determine fitting sequence, weld joints, and dimensional tolerances. Component Fitting & Assembly: Perform layout, cutting, burning, tacking, and alignment of structural steel shapes (beams, channels, angles, plates) and modular skids using clamps, jacks, squares, and measuring devices.

Cutting & Preparation: Operate cutting torches, plasma cutters, carbon arc gouging equipment, band saws, and pipe bevelers to contour, bevel, and prepare joints to code. Welding Operations: Weld carbon steel assemblies to AWS D1.1 structural standards using GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (Flux-Core) processes. Material Handling & Rigging: Safely rig components and operate shop overhead cranes and jib cranes to move and position heavy weldments.

Finishing & Quality Control: Use pneumatic and electric angle grinders, wire wheels, and drills to clean spatter, prep surfaces, and ensure parts meet strict dimensional criteria. Shop Safety: Comply with OSHA regulations, company standard operating procedures (SOPs), and proper personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.

What We're Looking For

3+ years of structural fitter experience. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Knowledge of shop safety in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of AWS D1 Standards. Why Openwork?
