Job Type: Officer of Administration Bargaining Unit: Regular/Temporary: Regular End Date if Temporary: Hours Per Week: 35 Standard Work Schedule: Building: Salary Range: $67,000-$67,000 The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) of the MINERALS Project, the incumbent will be responsible for providing broad administrative support for the MINERALS Project at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) to ensure the smooth execution of administrative and programmatic activities. The incumbent will be responsible for working with the PI to coordinate activities of the MINERALS scientific team; to enhance the team’s internal and external communications (including social media); to serve as administrative point-of-contact for the MINERALS team within the Seismology, Geology, and Tectonophysics Division; and to coordinate seminars and workshops associated with this project.
The incumbent will work with the team designing, implementing, and maintaining a mineral properties database for geophysical modeling developed as part of the MINERALS Project.
Responsibilities
Coordinate group travel and reimbursements, purchasing, and vendors; assist the PI in recruitment and hiring by maintaining communication with Climate School HR team; assist the PI in preparation of project reports; and coordinate with the SGT Division Administrator and Associate Director to provide salary information and coordinate hiring and searches.
Track and monitor the project’s budget, assuring compliance with Columbia University (CU) policies and the project award. Track progress with respect to project milestones. Assist with planning the logistics of seminars and a scientific workshop in 2026. Draft communications providing information on the events, coordinate registration, and serve as point of contact for meeting registrants.
Become proficient in CU and LDEO policies regarding use of campus facilities. Serve as point-of-contact for the MINERALS scientific team. Route external inquiries to appropriate project personnel, and work with team members to develop efficient means of communication and data sharing. Create and monitor a social media presence for the MINERALS Project.
Serve as point-of-contact with the Communications Office of the Columbia Climate School. Other duties as assigned. Works with minimal supervision within well-defined guidelines set by the MINERALS Principal Investigator. High degree of independent judgment and initiative within specified guidelines. No supervision of others.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent and 0-2 years of related experience is required. Must have excellent organizational and communications skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a deadline- and detail-oriented environment under general supervision. Broad computer skills are required, including word-processing and spreadsheet.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates having knowledge of: budget tracking, expense reporting, and database management; social media management; knowledge of Columbia University policies and experience with CU business systems; and an understanding of event planning.
