Senior Financial Analyst

Job description
Your Opportunity: Recovery Alberta is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst who is equal parts analytical, curious, and relentless about getting the details right. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, you'll play a key role in delivering accurate, timely, and meaningful financial reporting for one of Alberta's largest public healthcare organizations.
You'll be at the center of financial statement preparation, audit coordination, and technical accounting analysis, helping ensure our reporting meets legislative requirements and timelines while giving leaders the information they need to make informed decisions. This isn't a role for someone who enjoys coloring inside the lines.
It's for someone who wants to understand why the lines exist in the first place. In this role, you will: Lead and support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and related reporting packages. Support external audit activities from planning through fieldwork, issue resolution, and final reporting.
Research emerging and complex accounting issues, assess their applicability, and recommend appropriate accounting treatments. Support external grant reporting and compliance reporting as required. Contribute to special projects, process improvements, and initiatives that strengthen financial reporting practices. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing technical accounting expertise with practical problem-solving.
Experience working with enterprise financial systems, business intelligence applications (e.g., Power BI) and artificial intelligence tools is highly desirable. You can navigate complex issues, communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance audiences, and maintain a healthy skepticism of spreadsheets that claim everything reconciles perfectly.
Because sometimes they don't. And that's exactly why we need you. Description: As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will coordinate and/or prepare complex financial and statistical analysis and reports, along with providing interpretation of analyses and reports to support business and external requirements. Your work will be focused on budgets, forecasting, recommendations for program and/or cost efficiencies and development or enhancements to processes and controls.
In addition, you will coordinate and monitor progress of financial projects, as well as coach and guide other department staff such as Financial Analysts. Three to five years of accounting/financial reporting experience with preference given to experience within a large, complex public sector entity.
