About the Role

The Produce Clerk plays a vital role in ensuring the quality, freshness, and presentation of fruits and vegetables within the store located in Sebastopol. This position is responsible for receiving, inspecting, and stocking produce items to maintain optimal inventory levels and meet customer demand. The Produce Clerk will collaborate closely with suppliers and store management to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Basic knowledge of fruits and vegetables, including proper handling and storage. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Good communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working in a grocery or produce department. Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices. Customer service experience. Ability to operate produce handling equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts. Bilingual skills to assist a diverse customer base.

Responsibilities

Receive and inspect incoming produce shipments for quality and freshness. Stock shelves and displays in an organized and visually appealing manner. Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs to management. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the produce department. Assist customers by answering questions and providing recommendations about produce items.

Rotate stock to ensure older items are sold first and reduce waste. Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth daily operations in the produce section. Skills: The Produce Clerk uses their knowledge of produce varieties and quality standards daily to inspect and select the best items for sale, ensuring customer satisfaction.

Organizational skills are essential for maintaining well-stocked and attractive displays that encourage purchases. Communication skills enable the clerk to assist customers effectively and coordinate with suppliers and team members. Physical stamina and safe handling techniques are applied regularly to manage inventory and maintain a clean work environment.
