While both positions share the same core laboratory requirements, each offers a different technical focus and day-to-day experience.

We're therefore interested in hearing from candidates who are excited by either opportunity. Lab Technician – Customer Support Digital Working as part of our Customer Support Digital team, you'll provide hands-on laboratory support across testing, analysis and technical activities. You'll carry out laboratory testing, prepare samples, collect and interpret data, maintain equipment and procedures, and work closely with colleagues to investigate issues and support ongoing improvements.

You'll also support customer-related activities and gain exposure to different applications, technologies and challenges within the printing and ink industry. Lab Technician – Electronic Materials As part of our Electronic Materials team, you'll have a strong focus on application testing and technical support within the Electronic Materials market.

You'll conduct testing and evaluation, investigate technical and customer issues, support product qualification and work closely with teams including R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Sales and Product Management. You'll first receive comprehensive training to develop your technical knowledge and understanding of our products, applications and processes.

Once you've completed your training and demonstrated the ability to work independently and effectively in the role, you'll be expected to support customers internationally. The role involves occasional overseas travel, primarily to customer sites in Europe. A valid passport and full driving licence are therefore essential for this position.

The amount and timing of travel will depend on business and customer requirements. What you'll be doing

  • Carry out laboratory testing, sample preparation and application evaluations, accurately recording and interpreting results.
  • Investigate product and technical issues, using a methodical approach to identify causes and support effective solutions.
  • Maintain and follow laboratory procedures, SOPs and equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Produce clear technical reports, test summaries and supporting documentation.
  • Work closely with colleagues across technical, R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Sales and Product teams to support projects and resolve challenges.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, helping to improve testing methods, processes and technical capability.
  • Depending on the team, support customer technical enquiries, product qualification and application-related activities.
  • For the Electronic Materials position, undertake occasional international travel, primarily to customer sites in Europe, once fully trained and established in the role.

What you'll bring

  • A relevant scientific qualification, ideally a degree in Chemistry or a related discipline. Equivalent practical laboratory experience will also be considered.
  • Experience working in a laboratory, technical, quality, manufacturing or similar environment.
  • A practical, analytical approach to testing, problem-solving and interpreting data.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation and the ability to take ownership of your work.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with different teams.
  • A proactive, curious mindset and the willingness to learn new technologies, products and applications.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with ink, coatings, printing, electronics, PCB applications or related technologies would be advantageous, but training will be provided. Please note: A valid passport and full driving licence are essential for the Electronic Materials position due to the international travel requirements of that role. Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK. Why join us?
  • Work for a global company and market leader, with access to a wealth of resources and expertise from teams around the world.
  • Enjoy a varied role where activities can change from day to day depending on customer and business requirements.
  • Work alongside experienced technical specialists and gain exposure to a broad range of technologies, applications and challenges.
  • Join a team that encourages learning, personal development and new challenges.
  • Benefit from training and development opportunities designed to broaden your experience and support your career progression EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY It is Sun’s policy that applicants for employment are recruited, selected, and hired on the basis of individual merit and ability with respect to the position being filled.
