Job description: Position Overview The Chief Financial Officer is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting activities of the organization, ensuring accurate, timely, and detailed financial reporting that supports executive decision-making and organizational growth. This role is responsible for strengthening accounting processes, improving financial transparency, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory, operational, and internal standards.
The ideal candidate has strong leadership experience, preferably within healthcare or service-based organizations, and excels in organization, accuracy, and analytical insight.
Key Responsibilities
1 Financial Oversight & Reporting Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements. Consolidate, analyze, and validate financial data to support internal and external reporting requirements. Maintain and improve the company’s financial reporting systems and accounting processes.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory reporting requirements, and audit standards. Partner with external auditors, serve as the audit liaison, and implement audit recommendations. 2. Revenue Cycle Management Oversee billing, collections, and reimbursement processes. Ensure timely and accurate invoicing and payment posting. Monitor aging reports, identify issues, and drive solutions to improve cash flow. Partner with operations to ensure billable activity is fully captured and documented. 3. Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist with the preparation of the organization’s operating budget.
- Monitor variances, investigate budget deficiencies, and summarize spending trends.
- Distribute historical financial data and provide insights to internal managers during the budgeting cycle.
- Support managers with budget interpretation and financial analysis.
- Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Manage and forecast cash flow needs to support operational requirements.
- Monitor cash balances, ensure proper cash controls, and alert leadership to risks.
- Assist in planning for currency requirements or cash management strategies, if applicable.
- Internal Controls & Compliance Develop, maintain, and monitor internal control systems to safeguard company assets. Ensure internal processes are being followed across purchasing, payroll, vendor management, and accounting operations. Identify and mitigate financial risks through continuous evaluation of controls and processes. Ensure compliance with external reporting, tax filings, audit deadlines, and regulatory requirements.
- Operational Leadership Oversee day-to-day financial operations at a high level, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, vendor management, payroll, and general accounting. Approve large invoices and major expenditures as part of financial control oversight. Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and eliminate duplication. Maintain a structured and accurate chart of accounts that reflects Serenity’s operational needs. Improve month-end close timelines and overall financial accuracy. Ensure financial data integrity and adherence to GAAP.
- Strategic & Collaborative Responsibilities Provide input into key business decisions, including system implementations (e.g., accounting and payroll software). Act as a catalyst to ensure financial processes are executed correctly and regulatory deadlines are met. Identify cost-saving opportunities through operational efficiencies, optimized staffing, or better utilization of financial systems. Communicate financial insights and opportunities to senior leadership to support strategic decision-making.
- Oversight of Payroll & Billing Departments Provide direct leadership, oversight, and accountability for the Payroll Department, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, tax compliance, and reconciliation. Lead and supervise the Billing Department, ensuring accurate billing, timely submission of claims, proper documentation, and adherence to payer requirements. Review and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in payroll and billing operations. Ensure seamless coordination between payroll, billing, scheduling, and financial reporting.
- Team Leadership & Development Supervise accounting managers and financial staff. Participate in recruiting, training, and mentoring team members. Engage direct reports in higher-level financial discussions to support their development.
Qualifications
Education
& Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred. 5–7 years of progressive accounting/financial leadership experience. Prior supervisory or management experience strongly preferred. Background in healthcare, service industries, or multi-location organizations preferred.
Technical Skills Proficiency with accounting software (Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, NetSuite, etc.) Strong Excel and financial modeling abilities. Experience with billing and EMR platforms is a plus. Soft Skills Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical skills. Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Strong problem-solving skills and initiative.
