General Substitute Teacher K-12

Job Title : K-12 Substitute Teacher Location: Summit ESC Member Districts Job Type : During the school year as needed Salary : Daily rate established by district Job Summary : Substitute Teacher serves as a temporary replacement for regular classroom teachers during their absence, providing instruction and maintaining a structured learning environment in accordance with the district's educational policies.

The substitute teacher ensures continuity of student learning and upholds classroom management practices while fostering a positive and engaging atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

Implement lesson plans left by the regular teacher or develop appropriate classroom activities if lesson plans are unavailable. Maintain order in the classroom and manage student behavior following school policies. Deliver instruction in various subjects across grade levels, adapting teaching methods to meet student needs.

Take attendance and document any student issues or notable classroom occurrences for the returning teacher. Provide students with necessary instructional support and guidance while promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment. Communicate effectively with school staff, administrators, and students. Adhere to all district policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement). Bachelor's degree or active teaching license preferred but not required. Valid Ohio Substitute Teaching License (or ability to obtain one). Experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to adapt to different learning environments.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow lesson plans and provide engaging instruction. Physical and Other Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and occasionally lift classroom materials. Flexibility to work on short notice in various school locations. Background check and fingerprinting required per Ohio state regulations.
