Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial Practice Acquisition Director to lead the identification, development, negotiation, and execution of acquisitions of dental practices serving Medicaid and underserved patient populations . The Practice Acquisition Director will be responsible for building a high-quality acquisition pipeline, developing relationships with dentists and practice owners, evaluating potential acquisition targets, and leading opportunities from initial outreach through closing.
The ideal candidate combines practice acquisition and business development experience with a strong understanding of Medicaid practice economics , owner motivations, and the operational dynamics of high-volume practices. This is a highly relationship-driven role requiring a strong "hunter" mentality , financial acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to establish credibility with dentists and practice owners.
Key Responsibilities
Develop strategies to engage dentists and owners who may not currently be considering a sale. Develop and execute a comprehensive acquisition strategy focused on Medicaid-serving dental practices. Identify attractive geographic markets based on Medicaid enrollment, dental access, competitive landscape, provider availability, and market growth potential.
Identify opportunities through direct owner outreach, referrals, dental industry relationships, brokers, advisors, associations, and other channels. Conduct preliminary financial and operational assessments of potential acquisition targets. Prepare preliminary valuations, transaction models, and acquisition recommendations in partnership with finance and executive leadership.
Coordinate closely with finance, legal, clinical, operations, HR, compliance, and other internal teams. Support negotiations involving purchase price, rollover equity, earn-outs, employment agreements, partnership structures, retention arrangements, and other transaction terms. Identify potential transaction risks and develop strategies to address them.
Develop relationships with dentists and practices that have established reputations within Medicaid communities.
Qualifications
Required 7+ years of experience in practice acquisitions, dental business development, DSO development, healthcare M&A, dental practice management, or a related field. Demonstrated success sourcing and developing healthcare practice acquisition opportunities. Strong understanding of practice operations and economics. Experience with dental/healthcare practices.
Strong financial and analytical capabilities, including understanding of dental practice P&Ls, production, collections, EBITDA, and valuation. Demonstrated negotiation and transaction-management skills. Ability to independently build and manage a large acquisition pipeline. Willingness to travel regularly to meet dental practice owners and acquisition targets.
Preferred Experience completing dental practice acquisitions from initial sourcing through closing. Experience working within or alongside a DSO.
Compensation
Competitive base salary plus an attractive performance-based incentive structure tied to acquisition sourcing, qualified opportunities, LOI execution, and successful transaction closings. Travel Regular travel is expected to meet dental practice owners, dentists, brokers, and other stakeholders. Travel requirements will vary based on the organization's geographic acquisition strategy.
