Job Summary

Teacher Aide CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt SUPERVISOR: Principal/Vice Principal in collaboration with Teacher JOB SUMMARY: The Aide is to assist the teacher with the educational program in the classroom; reinforce learning concepts at the teacher’s direction; assist in the supervision of the student’s activities; perform various clerical duties and activities, assist with lunch and recess duty.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Classroom:

• Assists Homeroom teacher in preparing materials and study aids to be used by the students or faculty in classroom or individual study situations
• Reinforce the school handbook when needed
• Works with small groups of students as directed by the teacher
• Assist in the conduct and administration of classroom assignments, exercises, and tests under the direction of the teacher
• Observe students’ mental and physical health; report any potential problems to the teacher
• Monitor individual progress of students and discuss problem areas and improvements with the teacher
• Assist in the administration and scoring of tests and quizzes
• Explain and clarify work assignments to students
• Assist in the supervision of student’s classroom activities and refer discipline problems to the teacher
• Develop and maintain records, logs, and files as assigned
• Issue instructional materials and equipment to students; maintain inventory of supplies and equipment used; assist in procuring or replacement materials as necessary
• Maintain records on student’s progress in the development of specific skills, at the request of the teacher
• Accompany class on field trips and assist in the supervision of the class
• Send items to the main office in an inter-office/covered envelope; empty and sort information in envelopes
• Accompany students to music, P.E., and art classes to assist with supervision of students
• Cell phones are to be used in emergency situations only
• Perform other duties as de
