Job description

$16.26 - $20.73 Starting salary based on qualifications and experience. Job Description Performs responsible work assisting clients, living at home, with activities of daily living. Distinguishing Features of the Class An employee in this class is responsible for providing personal care and home management to older adults, in accordance with a plan of care, who need assistance in order to prevent institutionalization.

Work generally requires the employee to assist with bathing, basic cleaning, laundry, errands, transportation and preparing light meals. Respite for caregivers may also be provided in accordance with a plan of care. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the CNA Coordinator with clinical supervision provided by the RN Case Managers.

Illustrative Examples of Work Provides client care , according to a plan of care, such as: bathing, cleaning, laundry, changing bed linens, cooking; occasional shopping and transportation. Completes and provides paperwork to the supervisor, such as: travel forms, work schedule adjustment forms, training logs and in-home aide service forms.

Discusses cases with CNA Coordinator and provides updates to the Case Manager. Monitors emails; and completes leave slips and timesheets electronically. Observes general condition of client and living environment, reports changes and concerns to supervisor or case manager. Provides companionship to clients by listening, comforting and consoling, while maintaining professional boundaries.

Reports signs of abuse or neglect to supervisor so follow-ups and appropriate referrals can be made. Prepares daily reports and other required paperwork documenting events and activities related to clients. Follows protocols and notifies supervisors in the event of illnesses or emergencies. Adheres to the department’s safety rules, program regulations and service standards.

Completes extensive in-person and electronic training requirements such as First Aid, CPR & AED, monthly in-service training, safety training and general staff training. Performs other related duties as required. Recruitment and Selection Guidelines Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge and ability to provide appropriate levels of personal care.

Thorough knowledge of home management principles and good house cleaning skills. General cooking and meal preparation skills. Excellent driving skills for client transportation. Excellent safety skills for self and client. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish effective relationships and maintain positive rapport with clients, caregivers, and co-workers.

Basic computer and typing skills. Physical Requirements Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must possess visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned. Worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. Worker is subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

Must be able to work in conditions that are subject to contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids.

Education and Experience

Graduation from high school with a Certification for Nursing Aide and some clinical experience preferably in providing personal care and assistance to aging adults in a home environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses and Certifications Valid North Carolina Driver License. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
