Position Overview

The Senior Researcher is responsible for conducting research that addresses customer challenges, as well as creating advanced technologies, and solutions related to railway operation optimization. This role contributes to Hitachi’s strategic, financial, and operational objectives by driving innovation in railway operations, enhancing service reliability and efficiency, and translating research outcomes into practical, customer-ready solutions.

The position requires close collaboration with global research teams, internal stakeholders, and external partners across the mobility value chain. Key Duties & Responsibilities Conduct research activities and develop advanced technologies and solutions for mobility and transportation optimization. Manage and execute the product life cycle from capturing customer requirement s , developing solution prototyp es , conducting Proof of Concept (PoC) activities and demonstrat ing value through real-world applications.

Prepare technical reports , presentation materials, and proposal documents for internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with global research teams, and other internal and external parties to develop and deliver integrated solutions. Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across R&D teams. Educational & Professional Qualifications Master’s Degree or PhD.

Background in t ransport related discipline s with expertise in Computer Science , Engineering, and D ata S cience . Experience Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience in railway operation optimization. Working experience in software development design and customer-facing activities. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong hands-on capability in simulation, operation optimization, and digital twin technologies.

Knowledge of AI / Machine Learning, data analytics, and proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, and Any. Logic . Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
