Executive – Tool Room
Job description
To ensure maximum availability, reliability, and performance of plastic injection moulds by effectively managing preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, spare parts planning, mould life monitoring, and technical improvements. The role will provide dedicated toolroom support for critical projects and ensure timely resolution of mould-related issues to minimize production downtime and improve tooling life.
Ensure timely preventive and corrective maintenance of plastic injection moulds as per the defined maintenance plan. Attend mould breakdowns on priority and coordinate with internal and external resources to minimize production downtime. Perform systematic troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for repetitive mould failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
Maintain and regularly update mould history cards, maintenance records, breakdown records, mould life data, and other relevant ISO documentation. Monitor mould life, cavity/component condition, and prepare renewal or refurbishment plans based on mould performance and production requirements. Plan, maintain, and control critical mould spare parts to ensure quick availability during breakdowns and preventive maintenance.
Coordinate with external toolrooms and vendors for mould repairs, modifications, spare manufacturing, and technical improvements. Review repair requirements and technical feasibility of mould modifications in coordination with the Mould Development, Production, Process, and Quality teams. Support mould trials after major repairs, modifications, or corrective actions and ensure successful handover for production.
Monitor the performance of critical moulds and identify potential risks before they result in major breakdowns or production losses. Develop contingency plans for critical and high-risk moulds to ensure production continuity during major breakdowns. Support mould improvement activities related to recurring issues such as breakage, wear, flash, leakage, sticking, scoring, gate-related issues, cooling problems, and other moulding-related concerns.
Ensure proper preventive maintenance of mould systems including cores, cavities, sliders, lifters, ejector systems, guide elements, cooling circuits, hydraulic systems, and hot runner systems. Coordinate with production and moulding teams to understand mould performance issues and ensure timely technical support. Monitor mould maintenance costs, repair costs, and spare consumption and support annual budgeting and cost-control activities.
Ensure compliance with ISO systems, SOPs, maintenance standards, safety requirements, and audit readiness. Maintain and improve toolroom standards through 5S, TPM, Kaizen, and continuous improvement activities. Support basic toolroom manufacturing and repair processes, including surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, milling, drilling, EDM, wire-cut EDM, fitting, polishing, and assembly.
Read and understand 2D mould drawings, assembly drawings, component drawings, tolerances, GD&T, and basic engineering specifications. Support emergency and off-shift activities whenever required to restore critical moulds and ensure continuity of production. Essential: DME/BE/Diploma in Tool & Die Making / CIPET/ITI (Tool & Diemaker)
