Liberty Tire Recycling is a high-growth company and the premier provider of tire recycling services in North America with operations throughout the United States and Canada. Liberty Tire annually transforms more than 210 million tires into raw materials for smart, sustainable products that improve our environment and people’s lives.

The Company is private equity owned, has approximately 60 sites in the US and Canada, and nearly 4,000 employees. With innovative tools, technologies and processes, Liberty Tire is a revolutionary American conservation enterprise – from coast to coast, and from whole tire to end products. The company’s commitment to finding new and better ways to RECLAIM, RECYCLE and REUSE bridges the sustainability goals of scrap tire generators nationwide with those of local scrap rubber consumers.

Position Summary

Liberty Tire Recycling is seeking a hands-on Safety Manager to partner with leadership at an assigned site to reduce injuries, strengthen compliance, and improve safety performance. This role combines field presence, data-driven decision-making, coaching, training, incident prevention, and practical risk reduction. The Safety Manager will serve as the site's safety advisor and develop subject-matter expertise “SME” in an assigned specialty while operating leaders retain accountability for safe daily execution.

Core Duties & Responsibilities Lead site injury-reduction strategies with operating leadership, with a primary focus on the safety of hourly employees. Establish, monitor, and improve leading and lagging safety indicators, including TRIR, DART, near misses, audits, observations, training completion, and corrective-action closure.

Analyze incident, audit, observation, ergonomic, and operating data to identify trends, prioritize risk, and convert findings into practical actions. Lead incident and near-miss investigations, confirm root causes and action ownership, and verify that corrective actions are sustainable and effective. Maintain accurate and timely incident records, internal notifications, investigation documentation, and required regulatory information; escalate significant issues as appropriate.

Conduct routine audits and field observations to verify compliance with OSHA requirements, company standards, and site-specific controls. Assess equipment, material-handling, ergonomic, task, and work-area risks; recommend effective engineering, administrative, and work-practice controls. Partner with site leaders, supervisors, maintenance, transportation, and employees to integrate safe work methods and risk controls into daily plans and standard work.

Deliver targeted safety training and coach leaders and employees on hazard recognition, intervention, qualification expectations, and accountability. Report safety performance, unresolved risks, corrective-action status, and recommended priorities through established operating reviews. Exercise stop-work authority when imminent danger, serious uncontrolled exposure, or a material safety violation exists; verify effective controls before work resumes.

Build site safety capability through visible field support, cross-training, repeatable tools, lessons learned, and continuous improvement that supports safety, quality, reliability, service, and productivity. Additional Responsibilities Serve as the site SME for process and manufacturing risk, fire prevention, combustible-material hazards, machine safety, hazardous-energy control, and emergency preparedness.

Lead or support risk assessments for new or modified equipment, processes, materials, layouts, tooling, startups, shutdowns, and non-routine work. Partner with operations and maintenance to strengthen machine guarding, lockout/tagout, hot work, contractor controls, safe return to service, and risk management during outages and breakdowns.

Evaluate fire prevention and protection needs involving ignition sources, housekeeping, combustible accumulations, storage, detection, suppression, and emergency response readiness. Assess conveyor, shredder, grinder, material-handling, struck-by, caught-in or between, ergonomic, and workflow risks; prioritize engineering controls and verify effectiveness.

Use incidents, audits, downtime, maintenance, and operating trends to identify high-risk conditions and sustain practical manufacturing-risk improvements. Develop and maintain subject-matter expertise in the assigned specialty; provide practical guidance, share lessons learned and effective practices, and support other sites or Safety Managers when specialized expertise is needed.

Qualifications

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret safety data and convert findings into action. Strong working knowledge of OSHA requirements and practical safety management in industrial, production, transportation, logistics, or recycling environments. Experience managing safety performance through KPIs, audits, observations, investigations, corrective actions, training, and operating reviews.

Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with site leadership, frontline leaders, hourly employees, maintenance, transportation, and contractors. Strong interpersonal, coaching, training, presentation, and written communication skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, field-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Experience & Preferred Credentials Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, engineering, operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered. At least five years of progressively responsible safety experience in industrial, manufacturing, recycling, transportation, logistics, or similar heavy operations preferred.

Proven experience reducing workplace injuries and improving safety systems in environments with an hourly workforce. Professional certification such as CSP, ASP, OHST, CHST, or progress toward a relevant credential strongly preferred. Additional experience with machine safeguarding, lockout/tagout, hot work, fire prevention or protection, emergency response, process risk assessment, or high-hazard manufacturing strongly preferred.
